Hey all,

I've upgraded my lock nuts on the GQ to GU ones (hence lodging it in the general discussion thread) and I'm having some problems with them.

I snapped a CV and went to replace them and when I went to remove the collar the screws had sheared off that hold the locking washer in place, and to top it off the threaded collar has now become real tight and I can't get it off.

Question 1. how the heck do I get the threaded collar off, is there a tool for them? I just tightened it with some tent pegs initially and thought it should be easy to get off, but when I try and put a bit of force onto them they just bend. I tried allen keys also but they weren't working. any suggestions on what to do?

Question 2. why are the screws shearing off? have I not tightened the collar enough which causes too much movement and hence the screws are failing?

another topic (might try and get value for money on the Qs) do I need to replace the slave cylinder when doing a drum to disk swap? hopefully I can get it all done this weekend but I can search these answers, just the above two questions are bugging me at the moment

cheers

Ok new problem... Got the tool from ebay, looks good and no issues...well sort of. Tried to loosen the nut but totaled the tool (breaker bar on the end, my fault) so it's stuck on rather bad.

The locking screws have broken off and I'm thinking that the movement of the wheels have caused it to tighten up on the bearings.

Question still remains how the heck do I get them off?

The parts guy at Nissan recons that it's starting to become a problem and hence they stock heaps of the grub screws these days

I don't want to get the sledge hammer out just yet lol but I'm hanging out to go for a wheel and this little issue is standing in the way of replacing my cvs

Cheers

Ash
