whats with the GU gearboxes behind the td42? in the GQ they are solid as.. my gq has done 370oookms with turbo n mostly thirty fives n gearbox is still tight as.. cept my dads 99 gu ute the syncros are nearly gone in fourth gear it crunches every time?

its got 270 on the clock and has had the fifth gear upgrade. one of my mates has zd30 manueal which i believe is the same box? and its crunches in third fourth and fifth..

whats different about the gu box over the gq? i thought they were very similiar.

i know the earlier 4.2s had issues with fith gear and were rebuilt under warranty. Oil would play an important part of its life. I 've only ever used Castrol vmx 80 and after trying synthetic 85-90 thinking it would be better I found the oppoisite to be the case. It felt very notchy and not as smooth
