can anyone help? we have abovementioned ute which goes great at higher speeds but when starting out or stopped at lights etc is positively dangerous as it will not go until floored.
if anyone can shed some light on this problem we would be most grateful. thank you Maree

I own a 1999 gu 2 patrol cab chassis st turbo diesel ute. It goes really well once the revs have built up but when starting off if you dont gun it it will stall. Also once you slow down and change to a lower gear it will not pull it just dies. Someone told me i should get a 3inch dump pipe fitted and he would adjust vacuum settings. Do you think this action would fix my problem?

Take it to a diesel specialist and get it checked, you could spend a small fortune on upgrades without finding the underlying cause.

sounds like a possible fuel problem,
id be starting with the basics, new fuel and air filter, with the engine running crack each injector pipe one at a time, this will make sure no air is in the injection lines.
also there is a very small gauze filter underneath the fuel inlet banjo bolt on the injection pump. you need to remove the bolt and get a very small pick and pull it up. clean it out and reinstall back into the pump. then rebleed system and retest. hopefully these cheap fixes will help. otherwise id say its off to a diesel injection place.

Mine was a bit like that until I got it tuned up by a deisel specialist. Main things they fixed was to clean out the fuel pump gauze filter and then set the fuel pump to standard settings. Power improved from around 50KW to over 80. Several months later I had reason to get the fuel pump reconditioned and it has improved again but i dont have any figures.
