Following the Nissan guide on brand new head install (AMC Brand) torque wrench has 2 settings NM's and foot pounds as per the below set to 49 foot pounds (white spanner black background) now bolt thread appears to be broken looks like thread has popped with the bolt out and now it free spins? faulty head I assume or im reading this guide wrong ? 2010 CRD engine

Looks about right, did this around 2 years ago. Remove bolt and see what you get, you may need to lever the bolt head with a screwdriver while you undo the bolt. If it isn't to bad a helicoil may do a repair if a warranty claim isn't successfull.

Wanted to make sure first and foremost I'm not doing something silly with wrench settings as long as it's in foot pounds and not NM on my wrench I'm following it correct I thought ? Bolt came out with thread in it sigh 😥 I think it's faulty ?

Only thing I can have confused is a NM side vs FP side of my wrench I went FP and NM is much less if I was in to go 49

Just checked my manual and for ft/lb the setting is 37-42

So foot pound setting on the wrench correct? And idle cam on head and not block your checking ?

Affirmative, did you mention you may have applied the nm numbers to the ft/lb setting of your wrench?

Nope went foot pounds even if I went NM it's not as tight and the thread should not come out with the bolt ?

Ft/lb max is 42, nm max is 57, if those numbers were confused there could be an issue, just exploring possibilities.

Following the Nissan manual I went 50 roughly foot pounds... Now I'm confused as looks within range and I ignored the NM

Yep major brain fart and read it wrong so will try repair thread today

That is what I was suggesting earlier, if the nm number of 57 was used as ft/lb instead of the correct max of 42 then that is a 28% increase over recommended max.

I had myself confused even though using the manual for months due various jobs sigh deletes thread

Just to close the loop here thread repair via helicoil she's on there now and hopefully stays ...
