Sorry that should have been, HOW HOT SHOULD A 4.2TDT GET.

I have a TD4.2T 2000 GU wagon that normally runs on 75 to 90c, has been increasing to 110 when towing.
This is from a high quality after market gauge, what would be the highest temp one would go to before worrying?

cheers.

well as stated in MANY threads it can run up to 110 - 119 max i believe which is in the manual. but if it is geting that hot probably a reason try searching it will take u hours to read through all the threads

mine was running hot the other week ( 3/4 on my standard gauge ) turned out there was mud in between the a/c radiator and the main radiator had to pull them out and clean them properly and all fixed.

110 would be my upper limit and time to start to worry and back off a bit, saying that mine runs up to 104 when towing up the toowoomba range , but i run a 91 deg thermostat where before i ran an 82 deg thermostat and the temp kept climbing , it looks like you have a 76 deg thermostat , i would recommend an 82 deg thermostat as your 76 deg stat stops controling coolant flow at around 90 deg , the slower flowing coolant should take enough heat out t keep temps stable

118C water temp and 550C gas temps are MAXIMUM advisable ranges for a TD42.... that being said, the lower the better.

See other post a page or two in, some good stuff their.

I haven't got an aftermarket guage, but on the factory temp guage, I never ever reach half. It always sits just below half. Even when I was revving it up a slippery hill in the glasshouse mountains last weekend, didn't budge. Also gets up to temp nice a quick.

Looking at my Radiator, it looks new so I think the previous owner did a cooling system overhaul with new rad and thermo etc, etc.

Unless an engines been heavily modified, it shouldn't be goin up too much, if so, the cooling system may need to be looked at.

Thanks for replies, In another post yesterday I stated I was having trouble with fuel and power. I normally have no problems with temps and most times sits on around 75 to 90deg, 90deg being when going up hills or hot days towing.
Yesterday being 42 and as said some fuel problems I was concerned as how high would be safe. As soon as I got on the flat it was straight down to 88/90deg.
I do not know if the filter being blocked and engine starving for fuel would make the temps go up over normal or not.
The Nissan gauge did not go over 3/4 mark but normally sits one needle width under half.
Will do the fan silicone as a why not, its done 230.000ks now.

AS for search, yes many of us do not use it that much, but if EVERYONE did a search every time we needed to know something we may as well rename the forum, 4x4 patrol library.
Because no one, or hardly anyone would be posting anything new and that would make this a very dull forum.
And I for one would miss some forum members bitching about using the search function.

cheers Shane.

Combustion temperature doesnt really matter too much as long as there is even distribution of coal and draught across the grate to prevent cold spots occuring........

Whoops I thought we were discussing the famous 4.2 steam engine!

True, I do like some of the comments and bitching ;)
Just imagine if everyone searched for a thread and then added to that one to build up a really comprehensive and informative one.
Agreed, much easier to go through a dozen threads and try to get bits of info from each one or just start a new one where the people that know the answer can't be bothered to type it again

Can i fit 35" tyres under a standard GU ???

I have death wobbles at 80km's/h what causes this?

How can I make the front of a GU flex better? I have installed 8" 333000 pound front coils with 4" meloveyoulongtime shocks that I picked up for a bargain from supercrap. What I have found is that the shocks dont seem to cope? Can you help me?

Im having cooling issues can you help??

Can my fukoff by hardpron 4x4 20" lift be engineered in QLD... I keep getting canaries? Please help!!

When I up my fuel and boost the egt's go up to 90 billion degrees .... what can cause this? What is the safe limit for a 4.2?? Where should I fit my pyro? before of after my custom bootyfabbed galvanised iron sheeting dump pipe? BTW my dump pipe has cracked which brand do you recommend?

My GQ TD42 has done 11 zillionty kilometers and I'm thinking of turbo'ing it, it's a bit sluggish, what turbo do you recommend?? I'm the 27th owner.

Why does my steering wheel not sit centre after a 27 story lift? Would a RTC steering damper help? Which one do you recommend? I heard that they are good for the death wobbles?

I've just added a rear kaymar bar with 27 spare tyres, rear storage drawers and snap on's entire range to my drawers just in case I need to change the blinker fluid. Will coils spacers be a great idea to restore my Original fuk off lifted spring height in the back? Are they legal? What are the pros and cons?

I was looking on EBAY and poly bush kits can be had for my truck at half the cost of genuine nissan rubber. What do you guys think?

I can't seem to get my front end steering geometry right. Im running a john holmes lift kit with castor correction bushes and rancho 900gazzillion adjustables with in cab settings? I feel like I'm in a boat. Oh! I also forgot to mention I put this lift on at 900 million Km's what could be the cause? Please help.

My aircon cuts out when its bloody hot and I also dont understand why my you beaut dual battery sytem that I installed last year has packed it in? I was a brand new **** battery ... I mounted it where ARB said following there instructions, right near the exhaust manifold and turbo charger. Why do you guys thing it has failed? I only run my warn winch from it for 12 hours straight at a time and then I get this clicking noise and the winch wont work!!! Any thoughts?

I think you are probably best to start individual threads for each of those.
I recommend you put them all in the for sale section.

BTW, if you want answers on your battery question, please refer to it as a 'duel' battery system.

Also, please watch your grammar! I found that far too easy to read.

Dirt Devil raises a good point here and it would be great if some of the experts out there could give it some thought. My wagon also seems to be struggling for fuel supply when pushed and has started to run hotter than normal - does a below optimal fuel supply result in higher EGT's and if so why?

i am pretty sure it has to do with the pump timing , there is a lift pump and a pressure pump, the lift pump controls the advance in the timing as well as feed the pressure pump , if the lift pump struggles to get fuel then it doesnt advance the timing as it should and the egts become hotter

this is how i understand it or my best guess atleast
