Hi. I live in Africa, and it's been two months since I've been able to get fuel due to a fuel shortage over here. I've been walking most places wherever possible to preserve what little I've got left, managing to use the car less than once per week.

I just measured the remaining diesel in the tank: 55mm (via a ruler dropped through the sender access hole). But I need to know, how close to the bottom can I push it before it begins sucking up air?

It's a 1989 TD42.

I would hazard a guess and say once it reaches the pickup?

It'll be right, I have run mine 'til it's dry (accidentally, for those who would comment) then when you put fuel back in it just keep pumping the hand primer on the fuel filter 'til it's rock hard, crank the engine over a few times and repeat the hand priming process until it starts. Some people like to crack the injector lines but I have never bothered. I don't think it's a big deal trying to get air out
