This topic has come up in a couple of threads, and it has been noted that greasing CV's is on the nissan schedule every 40k. My vehicle did not have it done at 40k at nissan, I didnt do it at 80 just after I got it, and now its nearly done 120k. I have done the 120k service, including wheel bearing repack, but not CV's yet. Will be doing it shortly. I use 4wd regularly, at least every fortnight, beach runs, and sometimes up to 100km slippery dirt tracks. What about others? How often do you service them, and how much do you use 4wd? I began to think about it cos for the first time I can now feel some vibrations in the drive train when using 4wd and got to wondering when the CV's get greased. Cheers...

mine were apart every few weeks when i had my old gu, but thats because i was constantly submerging my diffs,

on my new one ill probably pull it apart soon and have a look, but i cant imagine them having any wear because the 4x4 was never used before i got it. ill have them apart when i fit my airlockers, i wouldn't worry too much about them.

does it only vibrate in 4x4?

I know that nissan say to do it every 40k but i doubt that many service depts does it

As to whether it is needed a constant 4wd landcruiser cv runs constantly (at all speeds)and these last for 200,000 klm plus without any repacking unless the axle seals leak and contaminate the grease with diff oil or you go through lots of water and it contaminates the grease so i dont know if a part time patrol would have a problem with the work the cv was asked to do under normal conditions if the axle seals are not leaking and the wipers are keeping the water out

I think you can buy aftermarket cv's that are drilled and have a grease nipple fitted in the outer end to squirt some grease into the cv without disassembly but i dont know how succesful they are

Regards Don
