Hi,

I am a new to gq safari and I heard that td42t has 76.5*C thermostat and td42 has 80*C. How do I know whether my engine is td42t? It is factory turbo silvertop but plate only states td42.

Got a bit of a drip onto stabiliser however cannot see where it's coming from. Assuming that it's from water pump weep hole but don't want to strip it until I know that I can get hold of parts.

Also is there a parts catalogue that gives me part numbers based on my Vin?

Many thanks in advance for your time and awesome site

TD42T engine was available in about 1999 or thereabouts. Your engine will be a TD42 if it still has the original engine in it.

One on-line parts suppler that uses a VIN is Partsouk.

Earlier in the GQ. My TD42T enigine is from a 96 Safari. I think the first ones were already in the 94 Safaris.

In Australia yes, but the TD42T was available in other markets from 1993. As OP called his vehicle a Safari, it's possible he has a grey import model. Or it could be an Australian delivered GQ with an aftermarket turbo.

I know that the Safari was turbocharged form factory, but was that with an engine with the different internals, designated the TD42T?

Because his compliance plate says TD42. I would have thought that would be correct. Not sure this question has come up before.

The original TD42T engines will have a T suffix on the engine number.
I don’t think any of the earlier TD42T engines had the silver rocker cover. Mine was a black rocker.

I believe the early TD42Ts just said TD42 on the plate, and putting the frame number from above into Partsouq seems to bear that out.

Shows a Japanese market, high roof Y60 wagon, engine TD42T, transmission RE4R03A.

That shows 12.1993 as the date with TD42T

Thank you for all the replies. VIN nr does not come up on partsouk . Truck is original Japanese import without any mods. Bought it from a guy who imported it with 50k km and owned it for 25y. Will take a look at the crank case.

Where abouts would it be on the crank case?
Also rocker cover is black but was told that it's silvertop engine and it's nothing to do with the colour of rocker cover

You need to use the frame number shown in the first picture you posted. Or just click the link.

Looks like 24V too (which is no surprise), by the twin factory battery hold-downs.

Awesome guys. Thank you all for replies.
So how does that engine compare to other td42

There's not much info on gc safari td42t all I can find is gu td42t being the strongest and blacktop weakest

Also are all the parts readily available or am I going to struggle finding new pistons ect.
