Hey Leethal, what do you reckon the best method of stripping the paint / powdercoat from the Mount supports / gearbox cover would be ?
Sandblasting is the way to go if you know somebody with one. I was lucky in the fact a neighbour that im mates with had one.
Repainted in kill rust hammertone grey

13 months on it still looks like a bought one and performs faultlessly. In fact i used it the other day to pull a few small trees out of the ground at the office for a gardenbed spring clean.

I ended up sanding.. paint stripper, sanding.... then undercoating/self etch primer, and then hammertone'ing it!

Hahaha....hammer tone is the go too paint across the board I've found.

You'll be done for another good lperiod of life and it's close to the original colour is a bonus.

My 6hp motor needs to be taken apart again... bloody thing. Loose terminals plus beach driving = aids.

I have a 25 year old M8000 that needs some loving and I am looking at getting a new motor for it. I have heard that a 6 hp motor off a XD9000 will fit, has anybody done this or know whether it can be done. I understand the two winches have different gearing, if in fact the bigger motor does fit with the lower gearing of the M8000 it will pull like nothing else.

Yes mate the motor will fit. The end plates are different size though and not interchangeable. The 6hp is longer though, so make sure it will still fit your bullbar, you'll need about 45mm extra at least :)

I was doing a overhaul of my Warn XD9000 and have "misplaced" the spring that goes between the the 2 cones on the brake assy. The spring is not available as a spare part, only the whole brake. Would anyone have one that they would be prepared to part with, for a price, or a photo of one would also be appreciated.

Thanks, Kevin

There's more than a good chance I'll have one you can have for stuff all, but I'm not home until mid next week.

A smart man would PM me then to remind me :)

This is a question that has been done to death and I keep finding conflicting answers, but I'll be re-assembling my XD9000 this week if the 9.5 drum supports show up, to mount this in a factory Nissan bar I have to mount it upside down with the gearbox on the passenger side and rotate the clutch lever, but wont this make the rope spool off from the bottom of the drum? Is it a matter of switch the cables on the solenoid or is it ok to use like this? cheers.

Nah in the normal configuration the rope spools to the bottom and the hole for the fairlead is located accordingly. Because in this bar the hole for the fairlead is at the top is why you have to mount the winch upside down, which makes it spool in the correct direction.

Just remember to die grind a new drain hole for the motor and silicon up the other two, very important :D

Yeah I studied your guide but was a bit lost until I bought that old junker winch and pulled it down then it all made sense, just didnt know if it was okay to use with the line over the top or not, cheers Lee :D

Yeah mate it's important it goes the correct way or you're pulling in against the brake and will build up a lot of heat and damage the brake eventually.

Arron you'll get away with that no prob. The angled surface inside is 90% good and that's where the cones push to force them to separate and push against the drum wall. Ideally of course new ones would be nice but they will do the job fine, I've seen worse and shown the owner who decided to reuse, three years later they still looked the same.

Ha!!! Brushes had a bit of use! Being a magnum I'm surprised it lasted long enough to wear out a set of brushes lol

It's the second set..... They probably lasted 8 months spent half an hour under water while whinching. That's why they are so shagged o reckon. Gonna chuck a 4.6 on it should make a world of difference

Just confirming from one page back, the 6hp motor bolt onto the M8000? I have two sitting back home which would be perfect for a rear winch if I could give them a bit more power.
