i got a gq patrol with 4spd auto. well looked after gearbox no issues with it at all, but looking to improve it now that im running big tyres its alittle sluggish, looking to increase take off in it like when going up hills or just general driving before i just go spend money go turbo or v8 conversion.

im not sure what recommend but thinking about a stall converter, atm you can already lock it into 1st gear but i maybe a upgraded manual control lock-up unit, and valve body upgrade?

what else do yous reckon, also im located in brisbane so if anyone can recommend me to anywere to get the work done to it?

...change the diff ratios to match the increased tyre diameter.
x2 , its the diff ratios you need to change for better take off and going up hills , and what size tyres are you running ?

im running 37's and i got 4.6 ratios.
Well an easy solution is to down size to 35's , do you really need 37's ?

As for your trans a shift kit is a good investment as is the largest transcooler you can fit to it , this wont help with take off or going up hills but does assist the trans from heating up too much as does the manual convertor lock up

You could also convert to manual gearbox instead of the power sapping auto

I have a diesel auto, it was hopeless before i fitted a turbo, i am now running about 15 lbs boost with an intercooler, auto has upgraded valve body and manual converter lock switch EXCELLENT! very happy with it.
You mention stall converter, i destalled mine, it now holds earlier on steep downhill descents and still has no trouble boosting up from a standing start on steep uphill takeoffs
