Injectors and Turbo's

Hey all :D

Newbie here, another limey invaiding your patrol library of a forum :bigthumb: never seen soo much info! love it!

ive nearly completed a full rebuild of a TD42 Y60, High roof, Auto Diesel. i think i'm posting in the right place but Nissan cant (wont) even tell me where my trucks from! 99% sure its an import but it was made and 1st registered in the UK in 1999 so not sure? anyway Nissan are denying all knowledge of it so it must be!

Problem i have is its a turbo version but i brought it without turbo/manifold/exhaust so i was wondering if it would run without a turbo just so i can get on the road? or will i need to change the injector nozzels back to 113's (think thats right!) or can i stick with the existing ones (121 i think)?

I'll prob turbo it again but cash flow is a bit low at the moment so any ideas help welcome :)

Many thnks

Daz, if that is the one from me, your car would've been built in Japan and sold in Australia, and turbo converted there, it is unlikely to have had the injectors etc changed, so it should run just fine being non turbo (as it was born) again.

Daz, pm me your chassis number and I will decode it for you. It will run fine without the turbo. The TD42T does not have a lower compression ratio (raised by the turbo) like petrol engines.

Depending on the Year/model, it will have 113s but 121s run fine. My '94 TD42T Safari originally had 113s.

Just make sure it is not overfuelling (high EGTs) and if the nzzles are dirty either replace them or have them checked (cleaned, tested and reset).

Where are you?

Hey Guy's,

Thanks for the replys, sorry for the late reply but ive had trouble logging in (sems fine now :D)

Thanks for the offer of decoding the chassis number, i'll pm it accross. it'd be great to know some history.

As for the injectros, i cant resist turboing it :iconbana: but ive looked up some egt posts and think i'll put a temp hauge on the manifold, does it really matter if its before or after turbo?

What nozzels would be best? 113 or 121?

many thanks for your help

Hi Daz, 113 and 121 are supposed to refer to the nozzle spray angle. 121 are in the TD42Ti I think. My '94 factory turbo had 113s in it and now has 121 as a test....results to be determined.

No real data yet. I have the cracking pressures set at 1850 psi for the 121s. I can't say I notice any real change other than a more distinct "diesel" sound. Starts/runs fine. One other thing to note is I advanced the timing a bit. I am planning to advance it a bit further...

Hi paul,

Thanks again for your help :bigthumb:

Checked injectors today and they are 113's so i'll clean them up and see what there like, Ive taken a gamble on a turbo as well and got one off of a Mercedes Atego lorry :D they are also a 4.2litre and the turbo kicks in about 1600-1800rpm so ithough it would suit the auto nicely. They also have an exhaust brake bolted on the back of the turbo so that'll be interesting :grin: nice if it add's downhill engine braking with the auto???

Have good weekend

Send me one of those turbos...... Is the lorry diesel? What manifold are you going to use? Your rig was not originally a turbo.
Haha! Just say the word  Yes, diesel. They also rev to approx.4k rpm so should be a good match hopefully!!!

Ive had manifold/turbo flanges laser cut from 12mm steel and i'm making the manifold from that.
