Hi There All,
I have recently purchased (Sept 2010) a 2002 GUIII 4.8L Auto & am totally NEW 4WDing. I have since fitted LPG to the vehicle.
My problem is; that since the LPG has been fitted I have had issues with the Instrument Cluster. The day after the gas fit, my wife phoned me to tell me that the dash had gone blank on her ( no speedo, revs, odometer & clock). I had a look the following morning, checked all the fuses & had a fiddle with the wiring under the dash. The dash came back to life. I put it down to a loose wire/connection when the gas gauge was installed.
All was well for about a month, when the same thing happened again. This time I couldn't rectify the problem. I took the vehicle to the Auto electrician, who couldn't find a problem, but, recommended I take it to an instrument specialist. The guy he suggested I use was a local guy, not, the one he usually sends work to. The report back was that the Instrument Cluster was STUFFED. He then proceeded to inform us that Nissan no longer manufacture a replacement cluster, but he could get a newer model cluster & reprogram it to suit. All for the token price of $2500. No mention was made of getting one from the wreckers. My wife said NO to the new cluster. A couple of days later, the cluster came back to life again, running smoothly for about a month before failing again.
This time I have also discovered that I can't change gears manually. This doesn't help when towing the Camper Trailer. The Air Conditioner, also has a mind of it's own. Running flat out cold, no matter where you turn the controls.
Is there anyone out there who has experienced similar issues, &, what was done to overcome these. I really want to get this truck dirty, but, don't want to get stuck up the creek without a paddle, while I still have these problems.
Incidently, we use the GPS to monitor the speed.
