hey guys, am about to pick a 2000 gu TD42T with low k's! im stoked in finding this great bus! but, ive been looking and getting quotes left right and center, the price varies soo much its crazy, I also checked a lot of reviews and to be honest none of the companys sound any good at all. so at this point I'd like to get a few honest opinions from you guys on good prices and above all customer service and repairs!. cheers in advance

I can't put input on your car but I'm 25, got my 2010 gu wagon with some good stuff on. I have it insured for 48k and my premium is 1100 I think. I've just pushed my excess up to 2 g as I have faith in my driving! That's with AAMI who I have heard good things from. I almost went with youi which was really cheap, but thought if it's that cheap it would be a night mare to make a claim!

was with budget too - have my Subi Outback with them and 2 houses. But Bodget wouldn't insure it for the lift and tyres, despite it being engineered. So now with Virgin Money for the Patrol, they have the same underwriter as Budget. Virgin are relatively new in the market so seem willing to insure mods.

I'm with NRMA, top cover, had a 2.8t last year and the harmonic balancer went in Central Aust, NRMA were prepared to cover accom/freight the Patrol back to the East Coast and fly us home.
Or cover accom whilst the car was fixed. We opted for the car to be fixed in Alice Springs and since we had our camper van we didnt need accom cover, only transport the Patrol to the diesel mechanic. And yes car hire was also covered, unfortunately not for a replacement Patrol.
Earlier in the year, same vehicle, on the way to Melbourne the alternator?(generator?) died and we were floated to Seamore 100k short of Melb, and again had the option of accom and a hire car. WE just opted for the hire car and continued on to Melb to visit our daughter.

All this cover is nice BUT the fine print says for our level of cover max for the year $3,000
to cover accom, transport of vehicle and hire car.
BUT the service was excellent from NRMA, they called to find out how we were, they checked with the mechanics as to how the repairs were progressing and always was there anything they could do to help. :p
Been with NRMA for 47 years

Always compare apples for apples not just the price of the insurance!!

I was surprised alright...surprised how fricken expensive they were after all those advertorials they put out. Seems to me they only want to insure people who hardly ever drive their car. I'm insured with Allianz, they were pretty much the only ones who were happy with my various mods - bullbar, roofrack, turbo, 2" lift, etc etc. Most of the other company's made it too hard.

AAMI are strange, having a ARB rear wheel carrier didnt effect the premium, but having a cargo barrier added an extra $80. When I queried why, the guy said " they must get stolen" I then asked him if he knew what a cargo barrier was and he admitted he didnt..........
Im in the process of getting quotes most are coming in around $1200 and that is with every extra and no lies about modifications.

I ended up going with DGA Brokers, unwritten by allianz.

I was originally with AAMI for my 1999 GU 4.2TD but when my yearly bill came in at just under 2.5G i told them to stick it, especially considering somehow in the 4 months since buying it the car had depreciated 6G. DGA is full off road coverage, unlimited modifications, insure the price of the modifications as well as the price of the vehicle, so I've got mine insured for 25 with another 3 in modifications, including my fridge. All up costs me 1106 including the brokerage fee and its pay by the month no extra cost, so $88 a month.

I'm an old chap, with an unmodified van, insured for NZD22,000 comprehensive, garaged, NZD400 excess, glass cover (no excess), lifetime maximum no claims bonus (irrespective of claims) and pay NZD600 pa. I'm with AA (owned by AIG).

I have owned classic cars, and race cars, and have found mainstream insurers often refuse to cover them. I've used a broker, and amazingly, they will often insure them with the same mainstream insurer who told me they don't insure classic, modified or race cars.

I'm insuring my current race car with AA. Policy covers transport to/from track and storage, but obviously not on track for NZD200 a year (NZD10,000 value).
