FYI - A friend of mine who has a 60 series landcruiser - 1988 right hand drive just got a letter from his insurance company stating that they no longer will be insuring right hand drive vehicles unless they originate in the UK (?). They gave him 1 month before his insurance is up. He's in Ontario.

Anybody else running into this. I haven't as of yet. What a bunch of BS.

It has come up a few times in Ontario and Alberta. There is a thread on IVOAC.CA dealing with and naming insurance companies that are still insuring RHD there. I don't understand what the Fuk is the difference between a RHD HJ61 sold in Japan and one sold in the UK. They are the same vehicle, except that the one from the UK is probably a rusted out piece of crap that will need major work to make it road safe.

The difference between Japanese RHD and UK RHD is probably this. Whatever idiots are twisting the insurance companies arms like have or have friends who onw fancy UK classic cars and thus the exemption. Obviously there can't be a safety difference and even if safety was the excuse, insurance companies just charge higher rates. They still insure motor bikes that can go 300 km/h.

I'll check on getting a copy of the letter.
