Hi All,

Just wondering if this hook, which I believe is attached to the chassis, is acceptable for use as a recovery point?

Its on the drivers side. There is space for another on the passenger side as well. Do I need to add a second hook on the left?

Thanks in advance.
Ashley.

The hook shown in the picture is not as good as the aftermarket recovery points but for most purposes is fine. The hook that comes in the series 1to 3 is not as robust and should be replaced.

I fitted second to other side and works great
I heard some have straightened out these hooks with single snatch though
I completely believe you. Although, better it straighten out then snap off and send some metal flying toward my rescuer!

I'll try to source a second hook so I can use both in tandem though.

Many thanks,
Ashley.

I've never had a issue with them in the 14 years I've had my GU. Have done countless recoveries using it and ones on other GUs.
I do believe its possible to straighten one out if you are one of those idiots that has zero idea and think using the foot to the floor method of snatching whilst using the wrong strap is the way to go. These people also break recovery straps on a regular basis. A normal snatch strap will break way before the factory hook even considers deforming. I stalled out my previous 9000lb winch a few times doing recoveries with my snatch block and it hasn't deformed one bit. Dont be stupid and it will work fine.

Mine is a series 2 '00 td42t.
I was informed on here not to use that hook to recover with

Mine is long gone. Pretty sure the loop of the hook section was a hollow tube.
Very, very remote possibility, but I don't need that hook injuring somone or worse, on my conscience.
Mine has rated recovery points x2 on the front and a shackle insert for the towbar on the rear.
All up, less than the cost of one tyre.

Common sense is gold Skeg, Mr Nissan put the single recovery hook on for a reason and used reasonably and with respect it is safe and quantifies it’s purpose to the weight of its parent vehicle.
I say the problem is on these forums you get flamed to death for insubordination by thinking outside the hardline parallels of tradition...

Yes, you are correct. It is a tubular hook welded to a piece of flat that is not all that thick. I have a series 1 and replaced mine too. The hook shown earlier in this thread is off a later model GU and is made from solid bar. They are a much more robust hook than the earlier one.

I should have looked at it on the computer. Upside down on the phone it looked different but hard to tell wtf it was made of.

Move along, nothing to see here, sorry for the confusion

Earlier versions this was a shipping tie down point - not for recoveries
Later versions it was solid bar
Reckon a second hook from Nissan was cheap surprisingly - but that was when TD42ti was new so long time now
