Does anybody have experience or knowledge of whether of not I'd be able to get through to Karumba from Airlie Beach during February? There's a fair amount of water & road closures up there right now but is it a region that is generally affected by raging rivers during the wet? (Yes I realise it depends on how big the wet is). Just looking for some advice - planned route is; Bruce Highway north then to Charters Towers then the Gregory Development Road then the Georgetown - Mount Garnett Road then Gulf Development Road west to Normanton & Karumba. Thanks

February is the middle of the monsoon season, and Karumba is sometimes cut off for weeks at a time. The forecast is for it to be particularly severe this time, so I wouldn't be making any definate plans. I've only been up that way once during the wet, and it's amazing how big an area gets covered during the floods, very easy to get caught out.
