overdrive gear

Along with the deterioration of the condition of 5MT, I will hand over the friend's mission. Following maintenance of the this mission, I will replace the 5th gear with the civilian W40 gear and make it high gear. It will be from 0.836 to 0.75, which is the same level as the kit of Mars.It will be changed to the revolutions multiplied by the current revolution by 0.897. I secured the last stock of Nissan. Work will be done after spring.

1000rpm to 897rpm

1200rpm to 1076rpm

1400rpm to 1256rpm

1600rpm to 1435rpm

1800rpm to 1615rpm

2000rpm to 1794rpm

2200rpm to 1973rpm

2400rpm to 2153rpm

2600rpm to 2332rpm

2800rpm to 2512rpm

3000rpm to 2691rpm

The encounter came suddenly.
I found 15700km gearbox and transfer. I will start the gears of the previous project to 5th gear before replecing. It is a Marks kit, but this time I will use Civilian gear. The Marks gear ratio is probably the same ratio as for the W41 Civilian TD42T (0.75). This time, I use a slightly lower W40 for TD42 (0.78).This W40 gear will be approximately 6% higher , with a 32-33 inch tire and 4.111 final total 9-10% higher, which will be about over 200 rpm lower during high speed cruising.

Looking at your picture of the gearbox reminded me of something, when 5th gear was done on my old girl several years ago (I paid a company to do it as I don't really have the facilities to remove box at home), I found much later that if I had aircon off I got a slight gearbox oil smell inside the truck, looking underneath I found evidence of oil around the bell housing, during a service I checked the gearbox oil level and it was way overfull somehow, drained and replaced oil to correct level and oil staining stopped, but oil smell continued when aircon off. Just did a major service replacing all oils again and this time I squeezed my hand as far over the top of the box as I could and found the rubber boot over the gearstick is dislodged, so I'll assume this is allowing vapour to seep up through the centre console, there is no oil seeping through the cavity though. When I get some enthusiasm I'll remove centre console and check it out.

I imagined that the boots have come off, the breather hose has come off, and the seal bolts on the shift linkage assembly have not been replaced. The smell of gearbox oil is strong and anxious.

Breather hoses still in place, the boot sitting right on top of the box isn't in position, it is just sitting there, I can't see it but can feel it is loose, possibly it has not been fitted correctly and has dislodged when the box was refitted. I am surprised no oil vapour is leaking.

Shift lever boot is tight fitting on the lever shift and box at the Y60 box.
Nissan guys seems to forget to cut tie band this box .

The FS5R50A + TX12A weighs 100kg and cannot be moved by its my power, so disconnect it once. The FS5R50A is about 70 kg, and the TX12A is about 30 kg, so I can be handle somehow.
The FS5R50A was set up vertically for future workability.

Is that optical illusion or is the main shaft off centre?

Remove the case.
I took off the case with a plastic hammer while hitting the case. Looking at the situation, it seemed that the guide pin of the shift fork did not come out of the case. There are 4 parts to be combined with the case, main shaft bearings, shift fork guide pins, and 2 case positioning pins. When measuring to find a puller to pull out the main shaft gear, a reach length of 170mm or more is required.

I read the manual many times and got a working overview. The largest gear is a counter gear with a maximum diameter of about 120 mm, a main shaft gear diameter of 85 mm, and a reach length required to remove the main shaft gear of 170 mm or more. I searched for a puller based on these. The purchased puller has a maximum diameter of 120mm and a reach of 178mm.

Pull off counter gear
The counter gear has a diameter of 120 mm and can be pulled out by removing the snap ring and spacer. When you actually work, you will notice that the shift fork gets caught. Remove the guide pin of the shift fork from the mission case in advance and slide the shift fork down to disconnect it from the linkage. It can be pulled out easily with the counter gear and synchro assembly.
