Hi all. The missus and I are wanting to trade up to a Patrol and having driven my sister's '08 2.8ltr TD and I love it.
I've read that the 3ltr TD engine is better suited to the Auto box and vice versa. I'd prefer to buy a manual but what is better suited to this engine?

Also drove the company's '04 3.0lt TD manual and loved it also. Did some beach work in it and it performed as well as expected.

Also looking at an '05 - '07 model.

Any opinions much appreciated.

Cheers,

Scott

Less to go wrong with a manual? Jacket are you off your head? :p The manuals can have clutch issues unless the clutch / flywheel assembly are upgraded.

That said, tha manuals are nice enough to drive - but i WAAAAY prefer my auto. No clutch to worry about - or gear shifting in sand or steep terrain to keep it in torque. And i've not heard of any auto issues yet.

The general consensus AFAIK is the auto is a much better option for the 3.0s.

Take them both for a drive and see what you reckon.

I have to agree with Mic.
Auto are far easier to drive - in the city, beach, towing or hill, but especially if you let the miss's drive it to.
My personal experience during my 4x4ing - Auto
There has been no auto problems in general that I know of, but if you want a manual you may need to go to a 4.2ltr. Which has a great motor.
Anyway- welcome to the forum. It maybe also wise to have a read of the reference document and mods required for the patrols. A lot of wise people, wiser than me, have documented there experience and solutions
