lost fuel filter primer

I have a bit of a dillema,i seem to have lost the the black primer button thing & the spring from the top of the diesel fuel filter.
Can you still change the fuel filter without the primer? & does anyone have one laying around that they would like to sell (the whole filter set up) as you have to buy the whole set up not just the plunger & i hear they are not cheap.

Awesome idea, I have found that replacing the fuel filter and getting it going again is generally a real bitch.
