Picture Comp Overview.

Commencing the first day of the month, a submission thread will be started and members can post their picture. The competition is based on the number of ‘likes’ a picture receives. The submission thread will close at midnight of the last day of the month (but getting your picture in a week before would help your ‘like’ situation), ‘likes’ will then be tallied to give us a winner, in the unlikely event of a tie, we will do another posting and get the new ‘likes’. At the end of the year we will take all of the winners and put the previous 11 winners up against one another to have a grand champion selected. No prizes at this time, just satisfaction. Any photo may be removed from the submission thread by the moderation group if they are deemed inappropriate, ie, showing dangerous activity or blazing a new trail, not family friendly, poor quality, etc.

Rules.

1.. Pictures are to be of good quality and over 1Mb resolution.

2. Landscape pictures only.

3. Scenic, Spectacular background pictures only, no driveway shots.

4. Submit only pics of vehicles you own.

5. You may only submit one picture of one vehicle per competition period, that picture cannot be used again in following competitions.

6. Posted pictures immediately become the property of Patrol4x4.com.

7. No identification or advertising marks to be on the entered picture.

8. Each picture posted is to have a BOLD brief description heading.

9. No chatter in the picture thread, just ‘likes’, there will be a separate chat thread for each competition period.

G'day Ross,

I think this is a good idea as we will see some great shots, as in the Patrol In Beautiful Places thread. I do have an issue with Rule 6 though, as I would like to take part but don't want to give up the photo rights to have a bit of fun. I know that anything on the Web can be copied, but I don't want to give the photo away.

Another forum I am on has a similar comp but has a theme (sunsets, gravel roads, beach camp, etc) which is a great way to focus the shots.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks. Rule 6 actually relates to an option mentioned when I first aired this proposal to members, it is a possibility but maybe remote that a really good pic could be used as our forum header for a year. I had spoken to our owners about this and their reply was it is a possibility but not a guarantee as picture quality plays a big part as well as few few other points.
I didn't want to get too specific on our first year, I thought no driveway shots and the pic must be in landscape to be considered would be enough for now.

Thanks for that Ross. Was the orientation portrait or landscape, as most photos seem to be landscape?
Sorry, that should have read landscape, I'll go back and change it just in case, but it is in the actual rules anyway.

There were also some comments on the pitfalls of people suddenly wanting compensation for pics they posted, being “used” by the forum. I think it’s only fair that a person posting pics waive the rights to the pic. If that is unacceptable for the photographer, they should not post the pic.

Edzackery, if we do use them later we need to be covered, hence the rule.

I think rule 6 could be worded better, and state something along the lines of........ that with any picture submitted, it is acknowledged that the Forum has 100% royalty free rights to use the picture for any forum use ,advertising, reprint, circulation and modification in any way they see fit, but this does not extend to the on selling of the picture to a third party, or using the works for financial gain outside of the Patrol 4x4 forum format without further permission of the copyright holder or creator of the works.

I agree. I have no worries at all about the forum using photos, but I hate the thought of shots going to the world.

Same here, i fully understand both sides, but i think the wording is the key, it can clearly protect both parties now, and in the future, i mean, i trust the Forum and its current managers, but that could all change, and a picture that becomes "property of Patrol4x4.com" could in fact require that the Photographer needs to ask Patrol4x4 for permission to use it themself ? 😲

Ultimately, if your remotely concerned, then i guess you just don't enter , thats what ill be doing (lol)

It is a forum picture competition FCS, there is a remote possibility an annual winning pic could (as said remote) be used as a forum header at my suggestion to our owners, if members don't wish to agree with the rules (written by me, a non lawyer just to add a bit of fun to the forum) then please feel free to not enter, it is after all just a bit of fun. If this develops into a major concern to members we can always close and delete this section.

Didn't mean to upset anyone, as I could see it was for fun. Photo comps are always good value, and a good way to see other parts of the country.
