Also could be a sand bass I've caught them in north Queensland and they look like that.

Was caught in about 15m of water around greenhead will chasing KG.

Agree with Chopped, looks like Sand Bass, aka Glass-eyed Perch. Common in the west from Kalbarri north right around the top and down the east coast to sub tropical (which I guess is Sydney north).

Tastes chit if that is what it is.

Always good for fresh stripped / chopped / burllied (sp) bait when you're out fishing ... :D

Yes I'm a bit slow off the mark today but I concur with Drilerboy, Psammoperca waigiensis

I have heard then called: Glasseye or Sand Bass. I have seen them a lot when diving at Jurien and Green Head but never caught or eaten one.
