Evening all.
I'm looking at getting a new bull bar.
Xrox.
So why is the series 1-3 patrol, cheaper than the series 4 & on?
The chassis is the same.
No crumple zones in it.
What did change? I was under the illusion changes were just trim & standard inclusions from series 4 & on.
Or is it because of the different wheel flares from 3 to 4....
????
Somebody......

My first thought was it being because of the passenger airbag in the s4 and up, but that can’t be right since all the airbag triggers would be the same I assume. And afaik the high trim s1-3 had a passenger airbag anyway?

Anyway, I had a look at some photos, and the only difference I can maybe see is that the S4 bar angles upwards slightly around the headlights, to match Nissan’s attempt at a more “aggressively angled” front end, whereas the S1-3 bar stays flat all the way across, same as the 1-3 grille and lights? I might be seeing things, but it looks like that to me anyway.

S1-3: flat across grille and lights

S4 onwards: slight angle to match profile of later lights and grille:

Again, I might be seeing things, and I can’t see why it would make it more expensive, but that’s what I noticed anyway.

I can't find anything in the pics I've looked at, so I'm still wondering....

Even though the bonnet / grille shape requires the bar shape to be slightly different, the material and fabrication required for the two styles will be almost identical.

Only logical reason for a price difference would be manufacturing volume. If they make a lot more S1-3 bars, they can make them cheaper. Otherwise they’re just charging more because it’s for a more “modern” vehicle… and they can…

I seriously doubt they would’ve done airbag compatibility testing on either.

Out of curiosity, where are you looking for the price?
I just had a look on Outback Equipment’s website and they both have the same base price, just for some reason the S1-3 is on a 10% discount and the S4+ is on a 6%:

I can't remember exactly where I looked, but across a few sites the s4 on were $150 or so more.
Dunno about other brands, I want an xrox, so that was all I looked at.
