My first thought was it being because of the passenger airbag in the s4 and up, but that can’t be right since all the airbag triggers would be the same I assume. And afaik the high trim s1-3 had a passenger airbag anyway?
Anyway, I had a look at some photos, and the only difference I can maybe see is that the S4 bar angles upwards slightly around the headlights, to match Nissan’s attempt at a more “aggressively angled” front end, whereas the S1-3 bar stays flat all the way across, same as the 1-3 grille and lights? I might be seeing things, but it looks like that to me anyway.
S1-3: flat across grille and lights
S4 onwards: slight angle to match profile of later lights and grille:
Again, I might be seeing things, and I can’t see why it would make it more expensive, but that’s what I noticed anyway.
