Nissan australia trying to bend me over

Hows it going guys,

I have a 2008 GU VI 3.0L CRD with just under 93,000 on the clock,
So far the vehicle has been into Nissan to have the: exhaust manifold, turbo, tensioner pulley and dash replaced under warranty. At the moment they have the vehicle in for the gearbox that has been grinding when upshifting from 3rd to 4th and downshifting from 5th to 4th. ( sounds like a syncro to me)

Nissan Australia has decided not to cover the repairs under warranty as they believe the damage has occurred by driving the car like a race car and excessive towing.

Firstly has anyone had any dramas with their gearboxes on these models. I am trying to workout if this is a common problem so I can argue my point with Nissan.

I am heading down to the contractor that has the box to have a look for myself, before the fight begins.

I will update this space as I hear more.

Having just bought my first Patrol, this thread is making me nervous...........I was all smug and secure that it still had new car warranty, but it appears that isnt worth alot.
GanG, don't be nervous, what for....... enjoy your new purchase

Each warranty case is different and assessed on its own merit, this is an unfortunate story from one owner and very very cautiously I say you only get one side of the story (not saying at all there is any doubt in this either)

We don't really have the facts (information from both sides) so it should be looked at with an open mind

And - the case is not over yet, sometime with warranty you have to work on it

A little unrelated but, I purchased a 4x4 18 months ago, it had a problem that scared the sh*&t out of me - took me 2 months to get my money back and from a manufacture that from all information suggested gave no warranty - anything is possible
Hows it going Don
I have been given a rough estimate of 3000 for a reco box. I am waiting on a figure for the labour charges for just the inspection. The service manager gave me a quick guestimate today, but is going to get back to me. I am very interested to see what I am charged for the compression test I asked for.
$3k will buy you a brand spanking new box. I wouldn't even consider a reco box unless it was say $2k or less.
If it is only 4th (and maybe a synchro) plus bearings of course I wouldn't think you would be anywhere near that though.

Welcome to the site.

Couldn't tell you mate the service manager told me today that the had forwarded pictures of the gearbox to Nissan Australia and they had determined that they weren't coming to the party, for the reasons stated above.
There must be some evidence in the pics (or more likely a report from the dealer or whoever they send boxes out to) that indicates abuse type damage to the gear. If it was just a wear issue they would probably cover it. If it looks to someone like it has been bashed then they have an out. Not saying you bashed it but there must be some eveidence to point them in that direction.

No there's not always 2 sides to a story. My box was 12,000 km's old and jumped out of 2nd gear all the time. Not even 12 mths old, no towing, no abuse, not even at it's first service (40k for gearbox). I was put through the wringer over 4 months with my patrol, being off the road (in the workshop!) for 5 weeks during this period while they were diagnosing and trying things when finally I'd had enough and demanded a new box. Surprisingly I got one and it's been fine but there was always a smell of gear oil in the cabin when I had the drivers window down. We never got to the bottom of that.

Sorry to hear of your frustration here.

Now for something completely different- I love my Nissan dealer at Morayfield.........

My wagon is the 'type' that Nissan should be asking questions about for warranty

No further comments

All the best with your repairs
nissan are A holes all around and they wonder why sales are dropping,
Weird... I've never had a problem with warranty claims to date.

Latest one was when they repaired the Satnav display but I wasn't happy as the contrast when the reverse camera came on was IMHO a bit washed out.

I mentioned it next service and when I went to pick up the truck they had replaced the display with a brand spanker.
Russ,

I had a meeting with the Nissan stealer today and I had to get a couple of things out of my Pootrol. I'm glad to see my gearbox is still there :D I see they are putting yours all back together. All fixed?

Hows it going Leroy

I have been dealing with the foreman lately and have been very happy with his service he has constantly been in contact with me regarding where the vehicle is at

The gearbox has had a new syncro put in at my expense and I am footing the bill for labour.
I decided it was quicker easier and cheaper to strip and rebuild the gearbox using stronger after market parts once the warranty expires in 7000Km
I have just returned from the dealer car-less. The dealership is trying to get a resolution from Nissan Australia. Fingers crossed.

Had a win

Hows it going guys,

We have had a win and Nissan Australia are coming to the party and are repairing the gearbox under warranty.

I would like to publicly thank the service team at Mcrae motors, especially their service manager who took the fight for me to Nissan. They have even offered the use of a vehicle while mine is in being repaired.

Russ
About time- this should not be a fight every time there is a warranty problem
How do you measure excessive towing- gee's,
Sounds like Nissan are up to there old tricks again.
Thanks for purchasing my vehicle- but screw you after that.

Great outcome Russ. Pity it takes a battle to get what you rightly deserve and that should be a repair under warranty with good customer service.
Even though you win it still leaves a nasty taste....
