Having just bought my first Patrol, this thread is making me nervous...........I was all smug and secure that it still had new car warranty, but it appears that isnt worth alot.
$3k will buy you a brand spanking new box. I wouldn't even consider a reco box unless it was say $2k or less.Hows it going Don
I have been given a rough estimate of 3000 for a reco box. I am waiting on a figure for the labour charges for just the inspection. The service manager gave me a quick guestimate today, but is going to get back to me. I am very interested to see what I am charged for the compression test I asked for.
There must be some evidence in the pics (or more likely a report from the dealer or whoever they send boxes out to) that indicates abuse type damage to the gear. If it was just a wear issue they would probably cover it. If it looks to someone like it has been bashed then they have an out. Not saying you bashed it but there must be some eveidence to point them in that direction.LittleJohn
Welcome to the site.
Couldn't tell you mate the service manager told me today that the had forwarded pictures of the gearbox to Nissan Australia and they had determined that they weren't coming to the party, for the reasons stated above.

No there's not always 2 sides to a story. My box was 12,000 km's old and jumped out of 2nd gear all the time. Not even 12 mths old, no towing, no abuse, not even at it's first service (40k for gearbox). I was put through the wringer over 4 months with my patrol, being off the road (in the workshop!) for 5 weeks during this period while they were diagnosing and trying things when finally I'd had enough and demanded a new box. Surprisingly I got one and it's been fine but there was always a smell of gear oil in the cabin when I had the drivers window down. We never got to the bottom of that.GanG, don't be nervous, what for....... enjoy your new purchase
Each warranty case is different and assessed on its own merit, this is an unfortunate story from one owner and very very cautiously I say you only get one side of the story (not saying at all there is any doubt in this either)
We don't really have the facts (information from both sides) so it should be looked at with an open mind
And - the case is not over yet, sometime with warranty you have to work on it
A little unrelated but, I purchased a 4x4 18 months ago, it had a problem that scared the sh*&t out of me - took me 2 months to get my money back and from a manufacture that from all information suggested gave no warranty - anything is possible
Good luck.I have just returned from the dealer car-less. The dealership is trying to get a resolution from Nissan Australia. Fingers crossed.
Hows it going guys,
We have had a win and Nissan Australia are coming to the party and are repairing the gearbox under warranty.
I would like to publicly thank the service team at Mcrae motors, especially their service manager who took the fight for me to Nissan. They have even offered the use of a vehicle while mine is in being repaired.
