Hello,

First let me start off by saying i have searched for at least 5 hours on this topic.

I am looking for a source /alternative for the bypass type oil filter found on Nissan Safaris, available to order within Canada at a reasonable price. I would really like to find a Baldwin brand comparable filter but they don't seem to make one. I have looked for all conceivable TD42T variances and nothing. ie. UD1300, Nissan Civilian, lift trucks etc...

I have looked at
Ryco z416
FleetGuard LF3863
Mann Hummel W920/5 -- which seems to be the wrong thread ie. not 1-12 unf
Donaldson P502068
etc....

any help would be great, Thanks

These JS Asakashi filters came on my Safari, w/ an extra set. They have cross-references that have not been very useful to me thus far.

I was able to find rebrandings of the WIX 7155 bypass filter at Napa, as the SL7155, and the non-bypass filter is the 1452(MP).
I will be changing the oil filters coming up in a bit... have to decide which to use.

awesome info, thanks!!!

is the 1-12 thread filter the bypass type or is the 3/4-16 the bypass

As i understand it the 1-12 thread filter has to be the bypass type. WIX shows the 7155 as a non-bypass filter.

Part Details

Part Details

It seems between Baldwin and Fleetguard the location of the bypass filter element switched between the 1-12 and teh 3/4-16 filter elements.

eg.

WIX WL7155 is a 3/4-16 full flow, 1452MP is a 3/4-16 bypass filter
Baldwin B118 is a 3/4-16 full flow, just like factory with no recommended 1-12 available
Fleetguard LF3314 is a 3/4-16 thread bypass Filter with a recommended LF3863 1-12 thread full flow

Ryco Z503 is a 3/4-16 Full Flow with a recommended Z416 1-12 bypass filter
Donaldson P557780 3/4-16 full flow with a recommended P502068 1-12 bypass filter

The 1452 filter has the 3/4" opening, and weighs less.

the SL7155 has the inner pipe opening, just below the inside of a 15/16" (+/-) threaded hole.
This filter weighs more. I was under the impression that the 7155 is the funky one... the bypass. Please let me know if I've got it backwards!

In any case, they can't be mixed up upon installation.

maybe the WIX site descriptions are wrong, did you check out the links in my previous email ?

What do you think

You bought the 7155 from NAPA ?

Looks like I initially made an incorrect assumption about the filters, which was which!

I am willing to give the Napa pair a try.
I have sought info on peoples' experience with them, found that Twinotter600 had done the same, but I found no real definite conclusions - no warnings against them, and at least one good recommendation for the 1452.

it looks like the WIX description is incorrect, the WL7155 is a bypass type filter with a 1-12 thread

Well Jeez I'm back at square one! That's what I thought in the first place.

Thanks for confirming that.
I'd like to find some more of the JS Asakashi filters, or another Japanese equivalent.
