Quick question, something that I've briefly read about before but have always heard mixed messages.

If the number readout on your Odo are unaligned, which does it mean?

  1. Tampered with, ie wound back
  2. Wear and tear on the cogs, nothing to worry about
  3. or could be either of the two
My 91 TD42 that I've recently bought has this issue and while I doubt it's been tampered with as it is in mint cond, you just never know!

Cheers

When i was altering odometers if you did it the right way you couldn't tell. If you forced the gears it would misalign.
But i was adding kms not taking them off.

Cheers mate, actually was reading one of your posts from 2009 regarding this! You mentioned that you were doing it as part of your job. Mentioned that if you do it with a screwdriver then it's bad for the cogs but if you do it right, you can get it aligned and no dramas with damaging thing.

So ye, back to the question. If the cogs/numbers are unaligned could it just be down to general wear and tear or has it def been tampered with?
