Has anyone else noted that the technical sections are seeing a wider spread of models and engines in questions being asked? This seems to be an increasing trend over the last 18 moths. Good to see, we are alive and well.
I regularly get messages from new members responding to the welcome and overview message each new member recieves upon signing up.
I think we have a few years left in us yet.

I think our technical sections are undergoing a bit of a transformation. On GQ/GU, for the last 20+ years it was all about learning and understanding the complete OE vehicle, bumper to bumper. But I think the knowledge base on these now is so massive that there isn’t much more that we can “learn” about these vehicles as they left the factory.

It is now becoming more a conversation about how are we going to keep these things alive for the next 20-30 years, most of which would require powerplant transplants, maybe even going EV one day  if they don’t succumb to the dreaded metal cancer.

Most of the threads I read nowadays are either about “how do I make this or that engine work in my Patrol” or it’s relatively newcomers asking questions that have already been answered numerous times, and we just point them in the direction of where to find the info. Unfortunately this creates a lot of one-hit wonders where someone would register, ask one question and then disappear, quite often not even having the decency to acknowledge the replies we give and the information we provide.

It is a pity that the knowledge base here on Y62 is not as good as it could be. I don’t know why the Y62 brigade seems intent on hanging out in Fakebook, so I don’t know how we’ll ever be able to fix that. Maybe it’ll come with time…
Agree, that history is much sort after and keeping us alive and in the groove. Re Y62, it would seem that some Y62 owners have much different values to GU/GQ/MK owners, don't know why, we have tried very hard to make them feel welcome and to build our knowledge base the same way we did with all the previous models, you may remember a particular 'member' who would reply to every question asked by a Y62 owner with 'go to the Y62 fakebook page', this sort of attitude does not help us one iota.

The forum is looking better than ever, and theres very useful info and discussions. People feel welcome and theres always new members popping up and old ones returning, and tons and tons of sand baggers making use of the info we will probably never hear from but benefit none the less.

I was very disappointed recently, and realised just how good the layout and discussion is here, when I joined a Pajero Forum which I won't single out, it took 5 days to be approved by admin to post by which time I had almost lost interest, my intro post very polite but I got a 3 word reply to something I said about concerns about electronic 4x4 selection.

That doesn't happen here, the atmosphere is more friendly, and theres some very experienced folks that contribute.

I'd like to see more forums added if it's feasable, this thread suggest it is.

I truly apreciate the help I've found here, it's a good outlet for fellas and ladies alike who love their Patrols to share experience.

Well done to all :)
When you say 'more forums added' do you have suggestions? We have added forums (sections) in recent years in an effort to enhance our appeal.

its a diesel forum rosco.
petrol has been the hated other family member since forever whether you think so or not.
not a single person on here during the early 62 days thought they were any good as they were all die hard diesel nobs and couldnt accept change or the 62 being superior in just about every way, hence why the crapbook fraternity took over with some actually very clever and knowledgeable guys which paved the way more moving forward.
dont get me wrong, its flooded with flogs these days, maybe even more so than the forum some how considering what a flog bunch is still brain washed on here.
in any case, the forum has been good, just a shame heads are buried.
Welcome back, lol.

Yes, I 'liked' your post but some of it is a bit unfair I feel, there will always be extreme opinions by some on any vehicle, but I don't see any such thing against the 4.8 or the 4.5, they are just as loved as any other Patrol.

We have been called petrol haters, I could suggest there are those of the opposite opinion, but I will not.

I will never own a Y62, not because I don't like them, simply my age and the cost being the key, as well as the fact I have put so much time into my DI it would be heart breaking to part with it.

I have always had a strong bond with my cars, even my petrol Jeep that I took 3/4 of the way around OZ in the 90's, unbeatable on the tracks until the monocouque cracked

Anyone talking about hate surely does not remember the ZD30DI days here, it was that bad that admins and mods had to bring in rules about slagging off at other vehicles in technical threads (go for it in the general discussion threads).

Many of us have tried quite hard to lift the value of the Y62 section, we got hold of a genuine manual which is still available for those who want it. We have some Y62 members who contribute and that is what it takes to build a knowledge base, but it has been a disappointing exercise, especially when they are told by some to go to the Fakebook page, instead of that person offering advice to contribute to the knowledge base

I would suggest that members who own a Y62 that are not happy about the forum stop complaining and offer advice for improvement, my PM or the Forum Issue section are always open and I/we are always willing to listen.

I guess the biggest problem with that is the search engine functionality, and peoples ability or inability to search.

@geeyoutoo The functionality of the search has come into question since the migration, has anything changed since then or can it be improved ? I note unrelated results at times, and then things like duplicate threads which I know you are aware and sorting these things from time to time.
I agree to a certain extent re search, there was a lot of discussion with our owners and international forum admins on this, we saw some improvements but with over 1700 forums owned it became a nightmare trying to get a concensus, among admins around the world. I walked away after 2 years of daily BS on the admins forum, my sanity was more important. Search revolves around key words, this is why it is very important to name a thread and give it meaning. I spent hours recently deleting Death Wobble threads, 25 pages of them, some only 2 posts long others containing mostly BS.
I'm not expecting any real action on search in the near future as with that many forums priority of issues is the key. I still have contacts so will ask a question.

I don't wish to be inciteful, that would never be my intention, I'm trying hard to understand what transpired back then, thinking deeply about the Y62 thoughts that have been raised in this thread, I really don't remember any significant toxic feeling here about the Y62, certainly nothing like the ZD30DI owners recieved (as mentioned previously), one thought came to mind and someone here mentioned 'founding' members of the Facebook page, is it possible some early Y62 owners thought their vehicles were above the old diesels and decided to stay away and build their own model domain rather than help build a knowledge base here?

Apologies if this upsets anyone, it is just a question.

It is just possible that there is less action in the Y62 area because so little appears to go wrong with them. Mine's clocked over 180k and all I've had to do is service it. No one would be interested in me banging on about what an awesome machine it is, so I don't! :)
Yes possibly but we have Y62 members who have had issues and as said earlier have been told to go to the Facebook page instead of giving them feedback here, that action alone leads me to think that person has an elitist attitude. 4.8's don't have issues either but we have a reasonable knowledge base on them. Some, like me, like to play with things on their Patrol, engine, suspension, transmission, interior and we build up a knowledge base on mods all over our vehicles, does this not happen with the Y62?

Probably fair to say as well that newer cars are getting harder and harder to modify than the old ones. The single biggest reason for me buying a Nissan (born and bred Tojo lover) was that the Y61 was new enough to have the safety features I wanted but old enough to be able to modify- It's a great platform for people who want to tinker with their car.
A good point and I understand your reasoning. I'm not sure engine mods would be high on a Y62 owners list, they already have a lot of grunt, but I would think suspension mods, maybe exhaust and internal additions would have a few more takers.

Thanks for reeplies, it seems the general opinion is the forum is doing OK, so that is good. Re discussion development to the Y62, I'm not sure there is much more we can do from a management point of view, we have a dedicated section which we try to support as much as we can, but that will not work on its own without support from Y62 owners.
