Hey guys.

well now officially part of the Patrol clang with collecting my new car last night 07 ST 3lt CRD. Now to swap over the extras from the hilux, starting with my radio...

The Patrol has an Outback roof console and whilst I'm sure there is no trick to it I don't feel like kicking off the time with the car by breaking something.

Easy enough with the 2 screws by the rear view mirror, however the 2 in the center of the roof, is there a clip/bracket that this part of the console is held up by? Reason being the 2 screws at this point feel like they have nuts above and are turning the whole assembly. I can't seem to find an installation guide for the console in my google searching last night.

Cheers

Most of the ones I have seen the rear screws go into where the original interior light is. So there should be cative nuts I suppose. I guess if somone overtightened them at some point the captives might have come loose. Just guessing though and not saying all consoles are that was but the ones I have seen usually screw into there.
Good luck and welcome aboard.

Cheers guys, I had a look in the draw that drops down and coudln't see any going into the roof. There is a rubber grommet that has Outback on it which is where the other 2 screws are.

I'm thinking as Nizzbits has said the nuts may have broken off. but i'm hoping like h3ll that isn't the case.

Dronus4x4 - could be handy if it's not too much trouble.

Early model roof consoles were longer and mounted up using the center interior light. The later version is a lot shorter and is in stalled by using a supplies template which is used to locate the internal roof reinforcement bars which you will be drilling into. A bracket then fastened using the two new holes just drilled and the console then bolts to the bracket using (2 bolts). At the font they bolt up using holes from the front winscreen mirror.

Hope this helps.

This sounds about right, as the console finishes around the B pillar and falls short of the interior light. SO that means my consern that there are bolts on the top of the screws at the B pillar end and that they are turning also might be the case.... The previous owner has removed his UHF so it has been down recently enough, might just be a slight trick to it.

Going to attack it again tomorrow when I have some time fingers crossed. I appreciate the input though as it confirms I have been approaching it correctly.

mine is the bigger one, it consumes my interior light.

I ran out of time last night to have a look, but can have another look today

Dronus4x4, Thanks mate but probably no need as I zoom0001 has given me enough of an answer to say that the screws in the back at not going into a factory fitted nut/thread.

Well had another crack at the console on Saturday and it would appear the center bolts are just spinning however luckily I was able to pull the front of the console down enough to slip the radio in. Really happy with how it all goes together...
