Hi, does anyone know if the plastic guards are interchangable between series of the GU?

I guess that now raises more questions DesignatedDrinker, what parts are interchangable between what models, will the rear bar off GU VI fit a GUI, head lights from a IV fit III tail lights, bull bars, indicators etc etc??????

a quick look at the flares around the passenger doors will show you how different they are.

Yeah they are much different, but is the body work under the flares different between the models, if the metal work is the same or very similar then the flares may be able to be easily modded to fit, I have downloaded photos of the 7 series of GU but it is too hard to tell, has anyone done this exercise, might be an easy way to "upgrade" the earlier models to make them look "younger".
Just a thought.....

Cheers

dont bother, only a good experiment if you had a set of dirt cheap series 4 flares, -thats not likely.

a series 1-2-3 is what it is. . . i hate it when people try to dodgey cars up to look like a different car. -pointless.

The rear bars seem to be interchangeable across models. Not so the tail lights.

At the front, if you want GU IV headlights you will also need GU IV front guards, and you get to be the guinea pig (zhu zhu?) for determining whether the inner guards are also different... best thing you can do to an earlier GU series is fit a good looking bullbar like ARB Deluxe.

Speaking of GU IV flares - does anyone have a RH front one for sale? I creased the bottom of mine...

So Jacket 1985 I take it you hate all the magazines that show all the show cars and bikes, such as Street Machine, Hot 4's and Rotary's, Live to Ride and 4x4 Action etc etc, we all have to keep an open mind on what people like to do with their vehicles, after all it is us and all the vehicle modifiers out there that keep the industry going, if it wasnt for us and them then there would not be an industry. We all modify our cars from what the manufacturer presented to the market, have a look at all the 4x4's out there that have been modded, Chev engines, Holden Engines and Ford engines in Toyotas, Nissans etc Nissan running gear in Toyotas etc etc, as far as I am concerned if the OWNER of the vehicle wants to change the appearance or reliability or handling of HIS vehicle then all power to him or her, go modifiers you are the guys and girls that help to keep the prices lower for all. I am just an old man with a humble opinion.

Well. . . i dont buy any of them. my actual gripe was. . . people buying kit cars, or buying a car the trying to change it into another model. for instance, i hate it when people buy a executive and put a aero bodykit on it to get it to look like a clubbie, its stupid.

Mate I know what you are saying but its not stupid to the people doing it, a lot of younger people cant afford, or some of us older people as well, to buy an up market car like a Club Sport or a GU7, so they make do with spending a small amount of money on their Executive, GU1 to make it look better than what they already have, I love the look of the GU7 but cant afford to buy one so if it was possible to make my GU1 look a little newer then why not. I once heard the saying........
IMITATION IS THE SINCEREST FORM OF FLATTERY. I guess mate we are going to have to agree to disagree.

i would honestly rather have a stock standard xt falcon, than a xt falcon with a wild bodykit. its a lot less shamefull, know where im coming from?. . . . on another note. . . any patrol is nothing to be ashamed of, and if you modify yours to look like a higher model cheaply it will only look like you cant afford a gu 7.

if you leave it as-is, nobody is going to think less of you. . . . the old gu's are awesome bud. . . take pride in the old girl.:)

I own a current shape GU, but i look at older patrol's (especially GQ's) and wish i had one. ill buy another one. . . . i love them. i dont think they look shabby at all. . . . they look awesome. if anything. . . . . they might look better than mine. :p
