Hi all.

Bit of a problem with the GQ (TD42). Starting to jump out of 4th. Jumping out as you let the clutch out. Feels like it's not selecting fully. Gear lever seems to move the whole way, detent seems fine, feels like it's gone in properly but sometimes pops out.
Oil is new, less than a 1000k. Old oil didn't seem too bad. Don't think it's synchro's as it's not crunching into gear.

Hoping to avoid pulling the box.

Any info or ideas much appreciated.

Had the same problem on my honda integra, not a 4 wheel drive i know, but still had a manual gearbox that would jump out of third. Pulled the gearbox out, stripped and basically was just 1 little thrust bearing on the countershaft. Replaced that and did all the main bearings while i was in there, checked everything (was all within factory spec) and reassembled.

Problem solved. Basically the axial movement in the shaft was enough to disengage the syncro hub off the teeth. Long story short, (in the honda) a $50 part, but a bit of mucking around.

Trying an easier option 1st. Changing the plastic bushes in the shifter.
Suck it & see I suppose. I figure these bushes have done 375000 kms of changing so could do with replacing anyway.
Will let you know.
