When you mentioned cage, do you mean a Cargo Barrier or a Roll Cage. If its just a Cargo Barrier no engineering required if it's a Roll Cage yes it needs to be engineered and as @GeoffA wrote if you leave the seat belts in-place you can l register it as a 7 seater remove them and you will need to have it registered as a 5 seater.Hi
I have a 7 seater, not reg etc.., I want to put a cage in and drawers. Does that make it unreg / no Rwc as the kids seat ain’t in ?
thanks
Matt
When my GVM was done the car had drawers and a cargo barrier fitted, but the 6/7 belts were still in place.....if you leave the seat belts in-place you can l register it as a 7 seater remove them and you will need to have it registered as a 5 seater.
My GU has draws in the back all I did was unbolted the bottom bolt and wrapped the belt up and hid it behind the plastic panel. Still in place as required by Vic Roads.
Yeah that's the strange thing about engineers. If you present your vehicle to be engineered it will be engineered as presented unless you have consulted with the engineer from the get-go, this was my case with the my GQ. I consulted with him before the grinder was let loose telling him what I was going to do and after each stage presented the Troll to him to see if it meet the standards. When my GVM was done the car had drawers and a cargo barrier fitted, but the 6/7 belts were still in place.
The GVM upgrade was done as a 5 seater as that's how the car was presented to the engineer for the upgrade.

That's exactly what I did, unless the laws have changed in the last 23 years it is fine, the rear seat belts are still in there, just folded up and tucked in behind the plastic trim on the pillar. As I understand it, as long as you leave the 6/7 seat belts in place it's OK as the seats are deemed to be temporarily removed.
