Has anyone out there got any photos they can put up on the installation of the Racor 445R fuel filter on the CRD patrol. I'm going to install one as an additional filter to factory filter (as advised by Western filters). Any advise and photos would be much appreciated.

Hi Shane, I am going to go out on a limb here, I do not think that you should be putting an additional filter on your system without a supplementary lift pump or you could risk starving your injection pump which uses fuel to cool itself so it needs high volume of fuel to go through it.

I also note that the 445r is rated at 45GPH which may be too low a rating for the Bosh CP-3 injection pump fitted to the CRD. I have twin Facet fuel pumps rated at 30GPH each on my Di and the injection pump still goes into "draw mode" under heavy throttle.

Also note that the injection pump on the Di provides up to 10Hg of vacuum, the injection pump on the CRD (CP3) provides up to 20Hg of vacuum so it probably wants / gets more fuel flow than the Di pump.

If you are worried about water in the fuel, check out this thread for some other ideas on how to tackle it..

Cheers,
Whitie

i just did it remove the factory filter all together and get your self a 2 micron filter from western filters ($40) and take out the 30 micron filter that they gave you. this will the best money spent. you not need two filters and having two filters might stave your fuel supply. i got this recommendation from western filters and many people that have done it

marco81 have you noticed any change in the way your CRD performs with the 2 micron in it, I was wondering if it may cut the flow rate to the pump down.

I have already done this and had no problems. I have fitted a 2 micron filter on the 445r and have now completed 10000Km's. I have a little more pickup in power, not enough to write home about but I am more impressed with this fit out than the original filter. I totally removed the original filter which is 17 - 22 micron rated.
just my 2 cents worth.
