I'm up for the third service on my gq rd28t since I brought it in October. It seems to have started to "tick" as if oil is low/it is using oil. 200kms from 320000kms. I have blocked egr since purchasing an wondering if a catch can plumbed into sump will fix the issue, or wether that is normal usage for my motor?

What is the consumption figure? Maybe I missed it.

Mine uses about 200ml per 2500kms. Doesn't bother me. It's a mid oil change top up :)

If I let it go without the top up between changes and at the 5k kms change it is usually mid way between the high and low marks on the dip stick.

Haven't checked consumption at all, unsure on how I would go about it.

The ticking is what tipped me off, maybe soot is just making oil thicker an it struggling to get up top?

Will probs service it wed/Thursday.

Might not be fully warm, bur I do wait for oil to thin out/warm first. Don't notice it after bout the first 5 mins. Sitting at 80 right after that all way home. Too much wind noise to hear anything.

Do you have oil leaking off your turbo?

I loose smalls amount due to blowby. The 2.8's are natorious for it. I never need to top up with oil.

I just drove from Perth to Melbourne over the last two days and my 2.8 used about 1 litre of oil.

Not too sure if the 45 degree heat and sitting on 100km/h with the temp gauge at 2/3's helped but I'm not too worried.

The test will be after I change the oil on Tuesday and head on to Cairns over the next two weeks. I can live with using a bit but if by Cairns I have used any more than another litre I'll be worried. All up the drive will be at the 10,000km mark.

I did have oil covering the oil, but I tightened the loose screws gave it a wash an she's sweet as. Will an oil catch can help at all? Maybe plumb it back into sump. (has that been done on a 2.8?) or is it a pain in the ass?
