Ok my steering box seems to be leaking from where the main shaft exits and the pitman/relay rod attaches, so I guess there is a seal up in there somewhere

this started to leak after driving it about 35km with a badly out of balanced wheel on the front ( popped a bead lost the equalizer) drove very slow didn't have much choice was shaking to bad

my question is any idea what to expect in a job like this seals and maybe a bearing gone ?

the thing still steers fine just like it always has and doesn't appear to have any slop in the shaft (side to side movement)

before you ask have tried stop leak the thick Lucas stuff and it hasn't worked :(

I belive this is a bit of a coomon problem, my mate hit a rut hard and it did the same think has happen twice. I'm pretty sure you can get a kit for them, but the a bit of a mongreal to get the bearings in. The seal on the other hand i think ???????? it can be changed relativly easy, but don't quote me on this. I was going to rebuild one but never got round to doing it.

I know GU boxes are better, but for the sake of maybe a $20 seal i would be trying to change the seal, rather then spend $200 + on a Gu box.
$320 for a reco exchange - and that assumes that nothing else is buggered

thanks for the advice fella's
first up Nah not going to change to Gu box unless/until my box is stuffed, just don't see the justification, of the expense for the improvement it would bring, and TBH I haven't seen any reason you would need to upgrade the box, mine works fine apart from this recent leak.
Think I'll just pull it of first and see if it needs rebuilding as in bearings and seals or just seal, and go from there

if I have to by a replacment think I'll stick with GQ as for GU don't you need Drag link also, and mines a factory S2 coil cab so from what I know they came with bigger stronger steering boxes ?
