Just thought I would share some pics of the recovery points I am making out of scrap 10mm plate. I know I can just buy some but I'm on a pretty tight budget

I think the idea is good, however I would prefer to see the plate bent rather than welded. The welded joint would need to be well V'd to create a strong joint as this could be the weakest point during a snatch recovery. Even a small piece of steel can have a devestating effect on the end of a whipping snatch strap. This is entirely my opinion tho.;)

The plates were positioned on the corners so the out side weld was filling a 10mm by 10mm V and also it's got a 3 run fillet on the inside

Judging buy the quality of the cuts and weld it looks like he knows a bit about working with steel. IMO.

Yep, I'm not picking on the weld, it appears to be a good one, I'd still prefer to see the plates bent, rather than fiddling around cutting and welding etc. I don't believe in taking risks when it comes to snatching.

i dont think our press at work could have quite pressed the 10mm to 90 degrees and its a lot of stuff that had to be changed to try it cause its only set up for upto 3mm at the moment. thanks for the comments guys. i weld tow bars at work for energex trucks so i think these will be strong enough

That is 10mm plate with the big V's on the butt joint inside and out plus the nicest welds I've seen in ages made by a dude who makes Tow Bars for trucks.

Dunno 'bout you other blokes but I'd happily snatch him out anytime altho it would prob be the other way round.

... and Justa6... 10mm Plate, Oxy and a Hammer over the edge of a workbench... Uuuuummm... PASS

as long as you back gouged correctly then you will have no problems, that weld looks like flux core, which i one of the best welds for penotration that i have used!

just my opinion though!

cheers
