I showed the missus the soft shackles and snatch rings. She was sold on the weight savings as she can barely carry our recovery bag. (She insisted that our new winch had fibre instead of cable as couldn't manage the weight and stiffness of the steel cable on our old one) Still not convinced on price. Will have to work on that a bit more.

Hi Geordie, mate I'm sure the red sheave block red rings where the largest ones they had. My thinking at the time was on heat dissipation and I figured the bigger unit would take longer to heat up with the added benefit of cooling down the quickest. As you can see in the pic, they really are quite small, and weigh bugger all

Thanks, yes OK Drifta seems to be the main or only supplier I have seen in Aus so far. Maxtrax have not said when their ring will be released or how much it will be, but I don't expect anything cheaper.

I'm was going to have a go to make my own soft shackles to test when I get hold of more rope. But say to make a 250 mm long shackle (500mm) loop made in the preferred way like Gator Jaw or Bubba shackles, it takes about three or four meters of Dynema at about $10 to $15/m. So the price of the bought ones is not too bad materials and labour, all things considered.

You'r doing well to get her out to carry the recovery bag in the first place, mine usually just offers to climb over into the drivers seat while I get out and do the dirty stuff. Although I do remember a slippery and collapsing log bridge on a west coast track Tassie, she and the young fella got out and walked carefully balancing across the logs and then said your on your own, we will guide you from the safe side, ha yeah right.
