Just got a quote this arvo from from a removal company to move from Canberra/ NSW Border to Grafton NSW, in early Jan, 932km's (removal size 110 cubic metres) - $18,000. Far out Brussel Sprout, had to grab a beer and sit down. Didn't see that one coming.
Told the bloke, only wanna move my possessions, not the whole damn house and gardens or buy the shipping containers and trucks.
MMMM, think I need more beers to let the price settle into my head, hopefully get a better quote on Monday.

Gees Louise, $4.75 per KM outside of a Major City Centre for the truck and crews, plus their accommodation. Just gotta get off the floor now. LMAO:(

My exact words were "FARK a duck" and a few others I can't make sound polite.

Am looking at that, will take 2 x 8 Ton Pantecs (60 cubic metres each) to do it. Wish I had my Semi Lic, lol.

That's frigging insane. When we moved up this way five years ago, we paid a little under $5k to move the contents of a three bed house, as well as a car and two dogs- and that was for a 1600km move.

I'd definitely be looking for other quotes.

Are you sure you didnt ask him how much he thinks a good price for your Patrol would be?

Id be tempted to ring them back up and ask for an itemised quote - see if they can make it add up to 18k.
Im interested in hearing how they came to that figure.

Theres a member on here that does a bitta moving stuff
Not 100% sure who, hate to say the wrong person
Whack an add in the "wanted" section on here and flush him out
When i moved years ago,it was cheaper for me to buy 2 containers and pack at my leisure
Then get them moved when ready
You do need space to do this,id say if your in burbs having 2 containers on your lawn would upset people
Quoting removals costs is like quoting paint jobs
Are you having everything all packed up ready to just load ???
Or are the removals doin the complete pack, load ,travel, unload ,unpack ???
Do you have a certain deadline that it has to be done in ???

Mate of mine had a phone quote from a company to move from Melb - Newcastle. They played the old double play brilliantly. Scrote removals. (I will post their name when I get it)

Had to be out of the place on the Friday.. so booked them for Wednesday to give time to clean the house. Went got the bank chq for the money...

Needless to say they didn't show up on the Wed, or Thurs, but did on Friday which happened to be a public holiday (Perfect planning on their part - he couldnt call anyone else!!!) then told him the price close to doubled - this being after they loaded their truck. I called the cops while Rich negotiated. Cops werent interested. They added that there would be storage fees if he couldnt pay up on arrival. Perfect way to **** someone over.

I said unload it all and I'll go get the trailer and put it in storage and I'd pay for the storage while he went and sorted out his mum who had days to live. Their faces changed as they expected him to just buckle as I opened the door to the garage and house, and said just fit it all in there... After much mumbling of the inbred removalists, they refused to unload it. I started dialling the cops again :)

In the end Rich realising he was ****ing cornered just said to take it and he'd borrow the money off his old man.

the **** got there in the end, plenty missing, and lots damaged.

$18,000 Bloody hell, it didn't cost me that much to ship a 40 foot and 20 foot container from the UK. I think the price was about 7000 GBP (about $12000 AUD) and that included the company wrapping and packing everything in in the UK and the unloading/unwrapping everything this side. All customs fees were also included in the price.

I could have shipped my golf GTI for even less than that when i cam home... something like GBP2000! I'd have packed the GTI with all my gear and had a cool, and rare (on aussie roads) car!

Fork i miss that machine!
