Sad to see Johnny pass.

Back in the day when I boxed (for football training) in the 60's Johnny, Masahiko Fighting Harada, Lionel Rose, and to a degree Muhammad Ali, were my hero's.

RIP Johnny.

They mentioned on tv yesterday how he lost his filter after his accident..
Nothing wrong with calling RIP Johnny.

I remember him well. I also remember all the talk about trying to get him and Lionel Rose in the ring together.
77 is young these days, it's my age now..

He retired from boxing at the age of 24yrs, a very young age for retirement in any sport.

I think it's surprising this never happened. They were both Victorians that were world champions during the same period and fought in similar weight divisions. Rose was initially a bantamweight and moved up to lightweight later in his career while Famechon was between those two divisions as a featherweight. It was during a period when Australia did not have many world sporting champions and a nontitle fight for display purpose only between the two world champions would have been a promoters dream.
