Hey guys,

I was told by one of my colleges that the headlights I've got in my MK (the square headlights)
are very common, and that you can buy these headlights with a complete sealed headlight?!?

Does anyone know if this is the case (I'm tired of getting dirty water into my headlights when going hard...)

NeRok, do you, or anyone else, know of other models or manufacturers that run the same size headlight? I'm thinking this is very possible, a lot of manufacturers share some generic parts

Thanks for any help
Martin

Square headlights give really bad light...

So I added some more. Tank headlights. ;)
Almost bulletproof, twice sealed in steel body. There's enougn space even for HID xenon ballast. These headlights flow everything with light now and feel well in muddy water.

Lucky darn Russkis, you have access to so much fun machinery ;)
Tank headlights are very suitable for the old MQ :D
Yeah, rare advantage to live in such a military country.
Actually, I can buy and post these.
Last summer I've bought gears for my tranny in Australia - at Marks4WD Adaptors. So, I think it's possible to repeat it in opposite way.
The only objection is time - it'll reach you approximately in two weeks, I think.

Details're here as far as Mahvia already asked me.

I don't know, frankly. Seems it's a little bit too narrow...

Hi,

You can get sealed beam headlights for your car. The sizes were standard then, you had round and square twin and single. 6 different lights would fit almost anything. Keep in mind that with twin headlights they are smaller than single and normally the outer is hi - lo and the inner high only.

In these standard size lights before plastic ones you had normal ie tungsten filament. Halogen with bulb such as H4 and semi-sealed halogen which would be the pick going under water. Water cant get in and better light.

The sizes mentioned are standard around the world, LHD countries Hi - Lo dip the wrong way for here. There are some ring-ins though. I think the square light from Valiant, Austin and Torana are another less common single size. ( pommie one ? )

Buy good lights, not rubbish and the light from a square ( actually rectangular ) will be fine. I have done many upgrades, and would look at Koito or Hella and maybe think about sealing the bulb with silicone. With H4 you can put in a bigger bulb, and using a relay have a huge difference.

I have only seen the fully sealed units on 12V petrol MK's - you will find the plugs differ to the latter models and 24V trucks. I have just added lost of sealant round mine to stop the mud and water getting in - also put new bulbs in first so hopefully don't have to open them up for a while.

The MQ and MK do have different headlight plugs
The MQ being 24V and the MK being 12V
Although both sealed and H4 are avaliable in both styles and both 24V and 12V

on the same subject, there was someone on the forum can't remember who but the had the 720 grill with the twin head lights on his mq, Looked the goods.
One thing with this, is if you want to stay legal, this only allows 1 set of driving lights. as you can only legally run 6 forward facing beams.

i wouldnt mind a set of them tank lights, maybe everyone from aus who is interested we can get them all shipped in 1 box to someone, then split them and post them within aus, might save some $ ?!
Mate, frankly I'm not sure if russian post will send a pile of this lights in one box. Cause a box with even one thing is rather big.
Anyway, I'm back from north (it was - 43,6 degrees Fahrenheit) and in a day or two will find out all the picularities of international postages.

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I would post this in here after searching the forum. Yeah I know its a 2 year old thread, but I believe its a topic relative to the original post. Having recently been browsing eBay for some parts for my MK, I discovered some headlights that have been modified with Xenon Halogen globes. These are not HID lights, so they aren't related to any HID threads.

These are sealed beam replacement lights for the MK Patrol, with a current price of $88 a set from Victoria. It looks like these are a decent cheap upgrade to the standard headlights.

Here is a summary of the eBay ad.

To suit: Patrol MK models 1983 to 1987 fitted with standard type rectangular 142mm x 200mm headlights.

Note; These lights are latest technology with a Xenon halogen globe manufactured inside the light resulting in a much brighter, whiter and more efficient light and can be fitted easily in a few minutes with no modifications to wiring or plug required.

Features include:
High efficiency 100 watt high beam and 75 watt low beam Xenon globe is up to three to four times brighter with a brilliant white light than normal sealed beams.

Double vacuum technology enables up to two to three times longer life than normal sealed beams.

Full glass construction, no plastic.

Special reflector design results in ten to twenty meters longer light beam enabling safer longer night vision.

No more problems with water or dust damaging the reflector as the totally sealed design eliminates this problem.

Could any of you gurus please comment on these, has anyone bought these lights, or is there any reason that I'm not aware of why I shouldn't grab a set...?
