Hey guys
I have just got myself a 2003 gu. I am having trouble with my seconds battery I'm wondering if I need to replace the battery separator with an isolator as my main battery is draining. Or dose anyone have any diagrams/tips for what I should be looking for or changing. Cheers

How’s the auxiliary connected?
Is it just a wire from one side to the other?

Some form of basic isolator will do the job for 99% of cases. No need for a dcdc or anything fancy.
A simple isolator with an on off switch will do the job.
But a voltage sensing one will mean you don’t have to think about it.

I'm not 100% sure mate it looks like the aux is wired into the battery separator then from the separator to the main but I could be mistaken. Would a few photos help at all? If I'm going to have to change the separator I will be going with the redarc isolator but want to see if it's essential or when they did the engine rebuild they stuffed up the wiring

If it has a separator. That’s just a relay or isolator by a different name.

Do you have a multimeter?
If not $20-30 from most places.

As that will give us a better idea. But have a look at the separator. Good chance the input and output have been mixed up.

If it’s labeled. It should have the input coming from the main battery.
And the output goes to the auxiliary.

But yes a photo may help.

G’day Zach25 I find a simple VSR works well and I’ve used this one for years. It also has a switch to link the two batteries together in case your starter battery dies. Just remember to fuse both cables to the positive side of each battery

Ok I can see that’s its one of these isolators -

Ignore the two spade connectors as they aren’t needed.

For it to work. Power needs to go in. The power out to the aux.
So it can understand what voltage it is. The earth it needs an earth. This could be as simple as being earthed under the mount screw/bolt.
