Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum.
I recently bought a new y62 2013 model. It is now only 1000 kilometres on the clock. The car has started to show some funny issues from the second day I started to drive it. It gives out a whirring/humming noise which is more audible at 70-80kph. The noise resembles an uneven loaded washing machine spinning. This issue is accompanied by a few other problems, such as occasional jerk/clunk when letting off the pedal during deceleration, and vibration at lower gears felt on the floorboard and foot pedal, vibration at slow braking etc.
I took the car back to the dealer to have a look. They say the front brake discs were excessively worn and have to be replaced. However, the other noise and vibrations are "normal", just being part of the same range of vehicle.
So just seeking some advice from you guys with more experience in terms of if they are indeed normal part of the features of these kind of vehicles.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Gage

that's definitely not right mate, I wonder if you've picked up a dodgy repair job or similar?
Might pay to have it professionally inspected.

I'm still not following. It's a brand new car thats done a lap of the block. What repairs could, would or should have been done? No mention of it being bent or something replaced. I've done countless laps around Calder which is the hardest track in the country on brakes on a single set of rotors with aggressive pads and never mangled a rotor.

Default Y62 gets new OEM upgrade Rotors.

Read the above Thread for previous discussion on front Rotors. A known issue.

thank you all for the replies and suggestions. I am taking it back to the dealer to have another look. Possibility of flat spotting has been raised with them. cheers, Gage
So it really only had 1000km on the clock? Not 10,000 or 100,000?

I bought the 2013 and it's super smooth. I find if I've accidentally got 4WD mode engaged (kids pressing buttons) and I'm on the tarmac, I do notice it's a little rough when reversing or turning tight corners at slow speed.

Was it from a factory Nissan dealer or a trade in dealer
As a few of the other guys said above. definitely take to a professional cluey mechanic before you take it back to the dealers, some dealer mechanics I have found are pretty average. At least you will have an independent report and accurate ammunition for if you wanted to give them the opportunity to fix it or give it back on your cooling off period as mentioned by kerry 066
Could be as basic as the guys say above with flat tyres or in 4wd but if rotors are trashed after 1000 something just doesn't sound right. 38,500km on mine and original brakes

I bought it from a large Nissan dealer as a brand new car in August, never registered and factory warrranty for three years. The drive mode is always on auto. The dealer acknowledged the noise, but so far no clue how to fix it. I have taken the car back twice for a check. The have only fixed up the front discs but not the noise. Is there a cooling off period in purchasing a new vehicle? I am not aware of it. Any advice?
Cheers, Gage

According to my understanding of Australian Consumer Law (which applies in this instance), there is no cooling off period for new car sales once you have taken delivery of the vehicle. It's best to get that out of the way up-front, as you already have the vehicle in your possession.

There are other issues at play however, and you would be well served by educating yourself on your rights and responsibilities. Here is a link to the Australian Consumer Law website:

The Australian Consumer Law - Homepage

It is a relatively simple site to navigate, has a lot of information you might find useful. It is very difficult to work through the complex maze of consumer law via an Internet forum - there are many questions which need to be asked and answers provided in order to identify the situation, prior to the provision of any advice on suitable remedies.

I hope you get some value from the information on the website.

I'm currently at 102, 500 km in 18 months. Original brake linings and rotors. Still with good life in all components.

Keep pressure on. Ring Nissan customer support Melbourne as my experience with them is that they can cut through dealership fog and will encourage the dealer to make serious efforts to get to the bottom of your problems.

Hi David
Yes...I've not let the grass grow under my wheels.

Im planning to join the Patrol forum group at Pinnaroo this weekend for a drive in the bush and desert tracks in that area. Im looking forward to seeing how the vehicle cruises over the terrain

Gage
I hope you get past this nonsense quickly so you can enjoy the fantastic vehicle you own
