This is a dumb question but I can't find the answer, in the Nissan GU service manual there are black on white background spanner icons and also white on black background spanner icons, what is the difference?

From what i can see the black on white symbol might be a warning that the last torque setting is a inch pound (in-lb) setting & not a foot pound (ft-lb) one (the first two readings N.m & kg-m are the same) as lots of mechanics will work with the ft-lb/in-lb scale on their torque wrenches and not the metric scale
If you look in the manual you will probably find the black on white symbol on all the small diameter fasteners & fittings where as all the larger fasteners that you can really lean on will have a white on black symbol
1 ft-lb = 12 in-lb
Small in-lb Torque Wrenches are used on small stuff where a larger ft-lb one would not be accurate at such a low setting
I worked it out, the reason I was having trouble is because on page EM-1014 of the service manual the measurements are reversed, all of the in-lb measurements are actually ft-lb and vice versa, was throwing me off.
