Morning has Broken - Cat Stevens
Bear with me for a bit ......
......... Around 1970, Australia was changing the official national anthem from "God save the Queen". The unofficial national anthem was "Waltzing Matilda", and a heap of suggestions were put up for vote at a referendum (ultimitely won by "Advance Australia Fair" )
My favourite at the time, used the tune of waltzing matilda to lyrics praising our nation, but didn't get enough votes to win.
During this time of selecting a new national anthem - our Primary School, for some odd reason, chose "Morning has Broken" to replace "God Save the Queen" for 3+ years = sung during assemblies, roll call, and general displays of national pride.
Whenever I hear it - it takes me back to a Western Sydney military service comission primary school, where the knife fights, gang violence and bastardization in school were a symptom of the child abuse, wife bashing, and shell shock (PTSD) of the local area.
We were just kids for christs sake. Three kids suicided (confirmed). Many more just vashed without explanation.
Damaged ? ................ yeah.
