Speedo not working, faulty sensor or cluster?

Unfortunately we don't have speedo shops in Italy, but since it's going to my car electrician this wednesday I'll ask him if he can take a look at it, maybe it's really just a faulty chip.

May I ask you if you can send me a picture of the chip in your dash? I'd like to take a look at it myself before handing it to him.
I wouldn't have a clue what it looks like . It's buried in the back of the instrument cluster somewhere. When my speedo did what you are describing, I simply removed the cluster and took it to the local speedo shop.

They disassembled the cluster, replaced the chip, cleaned everything and reassembled it. I reinstalled the cluster in the vehicle, and it's worked perfectly ever since.

I'm sure somewhere in Italy there will be an automotive instrument repair shop.

There is a shop, I'll have to ship the cluster and they quoted me too much money for the job, I hoped I could do it myself for cheaper.

Thanks for the help mate!
If you can solder circuit boards safely and reliably you should be able to do the repair yourself. Just need to work out which chip it is, buy a replacement and install it.

I didn't bother because my soldering skills are dubious, and there's a good speedo shop within walking distance of my house :D!
