another question from baja burley.....

how do you guys protect your steering arm? (long one between wheels)

i've just replaced my bent one with a new one cos it was bent to the sh*tter. then started getting death wobbles at about 60kph lately so looked at it and its BENT! AGAIN! only very slightly, but thats all it needs to put out wheel alignment (annoyingly)

so has anyone got any pics or ideas of how to stop this??

Wheel Placement...... Wheel Placement..Wheel Placement ..
If you had a skid plate running under the front of the bull bar it may protect it by causing the truck to launch over rather than catch it straight on.
My idler arm is still straight however the subframe where it bolts on needs some TLC with the hot spanner and the portapower!

yeeeeess i know.... when you make your own tracks there is no such thing as wheel placement!!

thats what i was thinkin cory, plus theres nowhere really to bolt the bottom bit of it either. plus it restricts air a little bit. i was more thinking along the lines of like a spine along the back for added strength (say from 20x5mm strap) really wanna do a single draglink too..

Cost me 180 Luke. 4130 or 4140 cromoly not sure which one. I didn't go through superior, I went through a company down at browns plains. It's adjustable and that price included both tie rod ends. IMO if you were going to do that conversion I would use cromoly tie rod ends as well as they are the next weakest link

cheers

Looks like thats bolted up front to the bullbar
Run some serious lengths of bar down the sides, wouldnt need to mount at the rear
Better go like 20mm plate luke (haha)
Youll have fun bashing 20mm plate !!!

PS
Front shackle protectors on the bullbar, nice touch

i dont really like the idea of leaving the back end of the plate hanging. but its looking like thats what i'll do

Thick plate with bar or straps welded down the length (front to rear)
Maybe something welded across the back
It wont bend

There is a steel frame what holds aluminium plate
front mount is bolted up to the bullbar and rear bolted to the frame

Really these isn't shackle protection - front leafs are reversed and these are leaf front mounts welded to the bullbar (front axle is moved 2'' forvard)
