I know you get what you pay for and all that...but was in super cheap today and their winches which normally retail for around $700 are on sale for under $400. Now that is nearly super cheap, but maybe nasty too? Anyone got decent knowlege of the unit, I think its Black Ridge 12000lb...

IMO $700 for a winch is only gona get you something you could pull a boat onto a trailer with. Really cant see it doing much with a 4X4
The $745 Tigerz11 12,000lb hauls arse.
I've sold and fitted a few Tigerz11 winches and seen them in action.
I've had nothing to do with the supercheap ones or any others like them.

i have a cheap crap chinese winch that i got off ebay about 4 odd years ago , its a 12000 pd winch which hasnt ever had any dramas except the wirless remote was a bit unpredictable so i removed it, it has pulled out a hilux bogged to the chassie in mud, has recovered me a few times , the winch and solinoid box has been under water numerous times ( the solinoid box is mounted behind and below the winch), i did pull it apart once to regrease and give it a clean out but it didnt really need it as there was no sign of water ingress

i recon if your only going to use it once in a blue moon then a cheapy is fine , if your going to use one all the time then spend the extra , the same would go with the plasma rope vs wire rope ,the 400 mine cost me is worth it and i have no complaints

Ha Ha, there's good Chinese and then there's.............................................:headwall:
True enough, a bit like the cheap 2hp compressor that I bought a couple of years back mainly for pumping tyres and small jobs in the shed.
But like a lot of cheap chinese items it only takes one crappy component to let the whole show down.
It only cost about $80 and only lasted a couple of months before it stopped pumping air.
A little investigation revealed that the head gaskit may as well been made of tissue paper, but with the aid of a stanley knife and the foil out of the top of a Milo tin it has been running great ever since.

I too am seriously considering getting a cheap Chinese winch from supercheap.

I wont bother with my long winded reply I just made in another thread, but for the little use we will get out of one I can not justify, let alone afford to spend more on a winch.
I would be happy to use a snatch block and take things gentle when I did need to use it.

I have spent quite a bit of time researching the Aldi/supercrap/ebay/chinese winches and the overwhelming majority of people who have them seem to be happy.

I think as long as you understand your not going to spend a 5 day trip winching yourself and others up hills all day and know the limitations of the winch they should be ok for the odd self recovery from a bog hole.

It's a 9000lb not a 12000lb though
sorry about that, my mistake, but I think it might even be 9500LB, not buying it anyway...

Mmmm. I'm thinking of replacing all the other moving parts of the vehicle with the cheapest possible chinese option too, just to make sure I stay out of trouble. Why pay for a Tigerz or Ironman when you can take a chance on a cheapie? So far, this has never been a problem. Cheap stuff always lasts, and never lets me down...

Sorry, just had to... :headwall:

Can anyone tell me where the Tigerz winches are manufactured? They look very very similiar to some of the Chinese ebay winches.
Thats because they are.
There is only 3 or 4 winch factories in China & they produce all the models including Warn.
They are just rebadged with individual dealers logo etc. For example the Supercheap "Rydge Ryder" winch is the exact same unit as Aldi sells when in stock but has different stickers and name, the build quality, specs etc are identicle though becuase they are infact the 1 unit...

Personally I would go the Tigerz unit for several reasons.
It is still reasonably cheap IMO. I'd want rope instead of cable for safety reasons (by time you add rope to a cheapy you pay more). I prefer a local sale from somebody who gives warranty, a great after sales service and also a source for spare parts if needed. The seller is a 4wd enthusiast and knows the product & the market not just a fly by 1 nighter out to make a quick buck like those on Ebay or sell a product they have no idea about like Aldi etc.

ETA: stolen from another thread http://chinaproducts.supplierlist.co...na-winches.htm
Ningbo Yinzhou Tianxiang Winch Co.,Ltd.
Dongfeng Power Tool Factory.
Ningbo Lianda Winch Co.,Ltd.
Fenghua Haisen Motor Tool Factory.

And thousands of stockists of the above products lol

They all come out of the same factory, the chinese will change some things for you but they wont retool to make major modifications unless you're going to buy 5000-10,000+ at at time. Tigerz11 will not be doing this. Supercheap are going to have the same winches as everyone else that sells cheap chinese winches. They will do what some people want, but they are not going to compare to a Warn. If you need a Warn, get a warn.

Ironman don't "make" or design anything at all. You can find everything they sell on Alibaba/global sources exactly as they sell it. It's not a brand name, it's a rebadge name.

The advantage i see in buying from supercheap (not that i'm buying a winch mind you) is if you keep your docket, you'll get a new winch if something does go wrong with it. No need to send it back to the eastern states/wherever the company that sold it to you is from. Supercheap seem to have a store on just about every other street here in Perth, so i can only imagine they have the same in every other city. Just keep your docket in your glove box. This to me is the big advantage of buying cheap crap from somewhere like supercheap - if it screws up, there is a massive company backing it.

If i bought a cheap supercheap winch - which i would i didnt have a silly alloy bar - i'd probably make a few changes to it myself - especially the electrical side of things, but at least i'd know if it went bang in the bush i can drive a few hundred k's at most and get a new one handed to me. Sure, it might go bang in the bush and i'd be without a winch.. but if i didnt buy it/spend the $368 on it, i'd be without a winch anyway! Hell, you can spend $300 on a crappy hand winch at supercheap or a camping store!
