G'day guys, I'm keen to see some photos of the rear drawer setups people are running in their Gq shorties. I'm starting to plan my build up and am after some innovative designs to house all the usual suspects.. Fridge, air comp, batteries, water tank etc... Chuck up some pics. Cheers

I'm pretty sure there are some in my build thread which includes fridge slide, large draw, side storage, compressor and room for 2 120ah agm batteries plus all electrics that go with it. With the back seats out shorties have heaps and heaps of room in them. Could easily add cargo barrier and strap water tank to that.

Cheers Benos, that's a neat as setup you've built. I had a very similar setup in mind, my only consideration was possibly adding a second draw. Do you ever find yourself wanting more draw space or does the single do the job? I'm not a months on end tourer, just for weekenders and a few couple of week trips...

I originally had designed it with 2 draws in mind but due to already having a 4" lift and then adding almost another foot on top of an already high fridge I never would have been able to see inside it. And a dropslide wouldn't fit in the design plan. So I had to can the second draw. A second draw would be nice but really so far I haven't needed it.
The 74l fridge is far more valuable there I reckon.

Here's some pics of mine I made, have got a cut down cargo barrier on it now, and looking at getting or making a drop down slide for fridge

Cheers Martin.

I would rather have it than not, the left hand drawer is 500 deep and the right 350 to accommodate a battery 2nd compartment within the carcass. You would be surprised how much gear you can fit in them.

The anchor bar for the kiddie seats can be removed easy when not needed.

They suit me perfectly :)

Since the photo i bolted my compressor to the side and added tie down points.

If you wanna be a tightarse buy some plastic tubs from Bunnings and make a plywood box for them to slide into. No need to build drawers, no need to buy sliders and its quicker to make.

Of course its probably not as good as a real drawer setup but mine cost about $80 so it was good value.

Hey Elizep42, mate it's about 300mm high, which gives me about 70mm clearance with the fridge, and I made them about 1250mm long overall so the draws are about 1200mm internaly so heaps of room, bigger than most of the others you can buy and cheaper too :D

hey De@no what did you use as mounting points for your draws?
In my shorty there were at least 3 8mm bolts behind the rear seat, lift up the carpet to see them all.

You could drill holes in the floor and install rivnuts but you'd have to remove the fuel tank to be able to paint the holes.

These were my drawers which fit behind the seats (there arent in the photo), its just 3 plastic tubs in some carpeted plywood. There is a compressor on the right and a 10L jerry can fits on the left

Then i removed the rear seats and made another box with hatches. A shovel axe and saw fit in the smaller compartment.

I've since gotten a fridge which sits on top with two swags on the right hand side. Three 20L jerry cans fit behind the seats.

All up my drawers cost $70, but next time i'd spend the money and get proper slides.

I reckon put a second battery under the bonnet, less wiring and no worries about fumes.

As for water tanks i've got a 12V pump i'm yet to install so i can pump the jerry cans without moving them.

I just thought I'd mention that I got a CRAB bar installed too, from the same mob.
I'm very happy with it and price was only slightly higher ($297) :D (I was quoted $550 to get it done on the Sunshine Coast, so $250 saving that I can use on other chit :bigthumb: )

Here is their details if someone else needs to get some installed Mobile Home Car Services Pty Ltd - Car Repairs, Car Services, Capalaba Queensland
