Lookin to get myself a cheap Taxidore runabout on gas to save a few sheckles.

Is there any model engine in them that goes/is better on gas than others?

Lookin VS or newer, but think there is an engine change around that era somewhere? Not lookin to spend a fortune. loads on carsales for <2500 in sedans and wagons.

I wont be doing much to it, probably just grenade sticker, put the fooly sik sub in it, 2 SS mags on the front, drop the arse end 4inches for the launch look, paint the stock rims black and putting large chrome wheel nuts on rear it to look like a wannabe burnout machine.. and maybe a frangipani sticker.

Thoughts?

If you can bring yourself to owning a ford.. I have heard the factory Gas only fords run much better and more economical than the commodes...

Fal-coonsaloons are the better on gas, expect they do head gaskets every 60,000km. You would have better chances picking up a good priced, decent condition, reliable Falcon on gas than you would anything else.

I have assisted installing gas on Carollas and Excels before and its barely worth it, as the engine is a smaller capacity and has low power, there is not much to make back from a gas conversion.

By the way, I hate Falcons, but I can replace a head gasket and door lock with my eyes closed now.

Your mate will spend another 1500 on keeping it going.

If size is not an issue, I would buy a late 90's corolla/ pulsar....etc, manual trans go for nothing and are very reliable and cheap to maintain.

I brought a 96 corolla runaround p/s a/c 5 speed Immac 120kms for 3k 4yrs ago, Today I would get 3k for it and I have spent nothing on it besides services.

my 2 cents.

Get an ED-EF-EL fairmont with low k's. Happy turds on gas. Frankly never had headgasket issues with any of mine. They do headgaskets from hot cold hot cold all the time.....taxis never really do them because they are always hot lol. The AU motor is the one to have though (whilst staying cheap) it has much better heat dispersion throughout the motor.

Other than that VR to VS I think was when they whent from buick *****ter v6 to the Ecotec "suck you off" clapper. The prior engines liked gas more.

Personnaly if I was in the market for a runabout, it would be a low k VX commo for $4000.

Dont forget the "NO FEAR" sticker
bundy stickers, ute with a boot sticker, and cowhorns, and a 1100 poster bar.

Might go for a run to the auctions and see what chitters are going there. I'd spend 4k if i had it to blow on one, but I dont. :( Well not in one go that is.

Schitloads of them in Bordertown Truckster. Already pimped up for you. You'd save hundreds on all that really important stuff. Dont forget a UNIT and Jim Beam sticker.

Wouldnt so much worry about a frangipani sticker I would go for the stickers of stick people that ilistrate members of your family as you are gaurenteed an extra 4kw plus 2kw for any aditional members of stick family other than yourself, frangipani are 1.5kw per flower.

Head gaskets are partially a maintenance issue for falcons, mostly due to lack of maintenance to the cooling system. We have owned a few EFs in the family Old mans LTD has close to 300000km No engine problems Unchle sold his EA falcon with near 400000km on it never had the tappet cover off.

But there is also a computer issue EF-EL falcons which sees the cooling Fans only come into effect at 104*c. This can be easily modified with a few relays so you have full control of your electric fans, Done this to my fokes LTD and my 2 EFs and even with a trailer in city trafic at 38*c outside temp cooling system never exceeded 98*c Your temp and all sorts of handy info can be read through your odometer display if you know how.

Stick with a falcon EF-EL They didnt win an Australian design award for nothing.

- Fake shopping list down the front guard (bread, milk, vegemite etc)
- LED windscreen washer jets
- colour coded wipers and side mirrors
- 20 poster bullbar with 40ft whip aerials with no radios in the car
- 2 SS mags on the front
- drop the arse end 4ft for the launch look

Don't forget some **** baled burn out tyreson the back, cut springs, dents in the boot lid, clamped out **** sounding exhaust, southern cross sticker, a coat hanger arieal bent into the shape of Aus, a baby set in the back full of Jim Beam cans, 8 kids in the car with 3 in the boot, a pot stash spot, stolen plates, rubbish Altezza taillights that are broken so on the centre brake light works and try and find one with the clear coat peeling off. That combo would look so wicked madcore!

Considering that at least 90% of cabs are falcons, on gas with anywhere up to a million Km's on the odometer I think that is testament to a statement of durability in itself.
I have seen a 70's Merc reach the Million K on the original engine, was clapped out but still running (sort of, it came into the work shop because of a vacuum leak.).
