I just did a service on the bus and put in 20w50 oil and now she has started
Running noticeably hotter and Definatly under load I can watch the temp rise.
I have also noticed a drop in power (not that it had any to begin with)

I've never had a prob with it getting warn. Actually it ran cooler than normal


Would running thicker oil cause I usually run 10w40, make it run hotter??



Cheers guys. Im thinking about doing another oil change and run lighter oil and see wat happens.

it might make it run a tad slighter. but i shouldnt think it would cause it to run extrememly hot,
hot much warmer is it running if its going from say 1/4 to half now then i wouldnt worry about it to much. is it on gas? and did it do is from the first day you changed the oil or at a later date.

It's straight petrol


It's going from used to sit in about 1/4 to 1/3 and over night nit sitting on 1/2 and a fly**** above

And yes I changed the oil yesterday and drive it for the first time today

changing oils to a thicker grade can have that effect, it basicly comes down to the clearances in the motor , ie: if it has minimal wear then it would be easier to pump a thinner oil through , if it has been neglected or has high milage and the bearings have worn a little then a thicker oil would be ok as it would have enough room to get pumped through, if the oil is too thick it can starve some parts of the motor of oil or the oil is getting too hot as it isnt being replaced fast enough with fresh oil

its got 238 on the clock but i dare say it's had a freshed up cause the block dosent look that old and it's defiantly got a new head

yeah this one is doing my head in, so tomorrow i'm gunna get new oil and go back to the 10w40....

really need to find out what 1/4 actually is , on my guage it is about 10 deg

Yeah it doesn't make proper sense, actually using that oil in the first places doesn't make too much sense it's the oil equivalent to choosing blue tinted headlight globes, a junk oil only for use it in junk cars..

well the 20w50 is wat is specified in the workshop manual...

it's not junk oil,


i think i'm also going to add a proper temp gauge to find out and keep an eye on exactly wats going on

Yes mate sorry to say it but seriously it is a junk oil as junk as they come because of all the other choices you have to choose a good or even an average oil instead.

IMHO run it for 1k as a flush and then choose a decent 40wt.

interested also to see if your temp drops as a result.

coolant level is fine...

how do you define it as a junk oil? by the weight? I am using penrite oil...


but i'll take the advice and let it run for 1k (1 tank) and give it a flush...
