G-day Guys!!

I need some help here please, I have done as much research as possible but can’t find anything on what I’m looking for, hence this thread,...

I have a 2001 GU TD42 N/A Turbo and am wanting to install a GT28 on it, but my question is this,.....

With a ball bearing turbo how would I plumb this up for coolant?

Will a engine block, that doesn’t have a standard turbo on it still provide and a oil feel for the turbo??

This is a concern that I have heard about and am wanting a true answer to,... between the NON turbo,... and the Turbo engines, ARE there any INTERNAL engine set up differences between the two ?? (Mainly oil squirters to the pistons/rods??)

i know this is another Turbo thread, but like i said i have struggled to find what i need!!

many thanks for your time!!
regards

for coolant replace thermostsat housing with a GU one it has the port on top for the coolant outlet to turbo, then will need the fittings and pipe work to suit.
Can't say on the internals but as has been said in a lot of the turbo threads think you will find the oil supply and returns are already in the block just need plumbing

Thanks you all for your replys!!!

For the plumbing from turbo to sump is easy and i understand, just from block to turbo system to don't quite understand, is it just take out a plug from block and attach hose to feed to turbo?? Which the feed out of block is pressurised??

Also still need answer for if there are internal differences between the two difference models???? (Between the N/A turbo block and the turbo'd block??)

Thank you once again for your replys!

Its just the thread size, maybe the nutty professor aka itsakanotanissan can chime in if it is infact 1/8npt? Pretty much means its a small tapered thread. Where abouts are you located? I don't mean to sound rude but it seems like you might need a hand installing the turbo.

I do appreciate the offer and the information here guys!!! It helping heaps!!

But I'm in the eastern suburbs in Melbourne!

So looking at the top of the motor will tell me about the motor, so if I have a black top I should be happy!?

Also with the talk about fuel pumps, to change to a 12mm is it easy enough todo??
I had a GU ute before this one I'm working on now and it had a standard turbo with an MTQ at 16psi, but I wanted to do more psi with new turbo and do fuel pump as well, so am interested in that!!

Oil feed is 1/8 BSP thread in the block. Get a 1/8 BSPT - 1/4 JIC adaptor. Coolant feed from back of block where the coolant drain is. (Not sure on fitting size sorry) and coolant drain to the therm housing as stated before.

Difference in engines is the pistons. Non turbo have lighter weight pistons.

Search silver top vs black top. There is a BIG write up that'll keep you reading for a while.

Mmarcuss are you sure that the pistons are different? I know td42t's have the larger gudgeons and a few other differences yet I dont remember anyone saying anything about GU non turbos? Not sure if they are a black top or run a td42t set up without the snail? Anyone know if a gu td42 non turbo is the same as a say 95 black top out of a GQ? If so do they run the same 10mm plunger or a 11mm plunger without compensator?

Just for what I've read on this forum but non turbo gu 4.2 was the lightest piston. Gq blacktop was next. Gq silver top stronger again and gu TD42t the strongest.

Happy to be corrected though. Been a while since I read through the black top vs silver top thread

10mm GQ 4.2 NA -not boost compensated.
10mm GQ 4.2turbo boost compensated.
10mm GU 4.2 NA -not boost compensated.
11mm GU 4.2turbo boost compensated.

don't run your boost too high my motor lasted 75k
75km? or 75,000km? either way, that motor must have had something wrong with it. mine has clicked over 423,000km. been turbo for 30,000km odd, run GU 11mm pump. boost @ 16psi.

about to violate it with a 12mm pump and 25psi. see what happens. . . . .

1/8 national pipe thread it's a tapered thread for screwing hose barbs into other parts also helps seal the thread but sealant is recommended. Also don't run your boost too high my motor lasted 75k at 14psi clutch lasted 3 weeks after the turbo was fitted not enough clamp pressure or too much torque.

or they slapped a 11mm pump on the na motor. , , , ,

either way... good news if its a boost compensated 11mm.:p
you can run 20psi easy on one of those pumps. some guys here are running nearly 30psi on 11mm pumps. should be good for 130rwkw.

or buy marins 12mm $1300, put a boost compensator on it $500, and sell your pump for a grand! = $800 to upgrade!

Quickest and easiest way is to have a look on exhaust side of block if there is a close to 1" bung just above the sump under cylinder 4 it's a turbo block if it doesn't have one it's an na block. I'm sure I've seen 01 na td42s before. He'll over seas you can still get na td42 patrols haha

have any of you blokes actually blown a td42? i dont mean damaged one, iv done that. . . . i mean blown one up. moddedGU did his, scuba did his, but im not 100% on whether it was on its last legs or how it was treated.

Alan at racebred4wd has told me its crap, and he ran a diesel-tec 12mm pump and 2876 flat stick for years on a NA td42 engine. Andy told me he got 190odd rwkw out of his NA td42 with just bolt-on's before it exploded. ill be surprised if mine expires under 150rwkw. and im approaching 430,000km.

Hmmm...... i would assume i had a NA td42 if it didnt say td42t. . . . . .
On the other hand, could this indicate the different pistons between motors? the td42 vin could be lighter pistons, with td42t signifying heavy pistons, whether factory turbo or not?

Well the one under my house is getting rebuilt due to a swimming lesson gone wrong and is out of the same model as mine, as soon as i pull it apart I will check some measurements of the pistons

They all have squirters as far as I know.

not going to lie i have herd,....

-TD42 N/A turbo dont have them,....
-TD42-T have them,....

-TD42 N/A turbo have small ones,...
-TD42-T have bigger ones to compensate for extra heat from turbo tune!,....

so at the moment untill i pull my block apart, in going with the
"""-TD42 N/A turbo, dont have them... """
